Background

According to Luohu, Hongjun lost his original body during Pangu’s creation of heaven and earth. His surviving soul entered the Primordial World, merged with the Hunyuan One Qi, and formed a connection with the Heavenly Dao. During the Dragon Phoenix Era, he rallied cultivators against Luohu; the Heavenly Dao lent him enough power to defeat Luohu, although Luohu shattered his true body 247.

Luohu describes Hongjun’s present body as a Dao Body formed through the fusion of the Three Corpses. He claims it cannot improve on its own and must rely on the Heavenly Dao’s power or external sources such as merit and fortune. Luohu also alleges that Hongjun taught the Severing the Three Corpses method to limit other cultivators’ future growth 247.

Heavenly Dao Power

• Hongjun used power borrowed from the Heavenly Dao to reach late-stage Hunyuan Saint combat strength during his battle with Luohu 247.
• His authority has limits: when he ordered the Saints to stop a Witch Clan invasion, their questions exposed his inability to intervene directly at that time 455.

Three Corpses Avatar

• Hongjun’s good corpse can act within the Primordial World. It helped Eastern Duke seize a Blood Dragon’s body and reach the Half-Saint stage 504.
• The avatar then ordered Eastern Duke to take control of the Dragon Race and build a force for Hongjun 505.

Patronage and Political Schemes

• Hongjun made Di Jun his disciple, granted him Hongmeng Purple Qi, and bestowed Luohu’s God-Slaying Spear and Destruction Black Lotus upon him 470 471.
• He offered the final strand of Hongmeng Purple Qi to whoever brought him Li Yun’s Wordless Heavenly Book, prompting cultivators to pursue Li Yun 753.
• He used positions in the planned Heavenly Court to secure Di Jun’s cooperation with the Investiture of the Gods 930 931.

Relationships

• Heavenly Dao — Longtime source of power and political partner. Their relationship becomes strained when it refuses Hongjun’s request to advance his cultivation; Hongjun reveals that he wants the complete Creation Jade Disc 247 925.
• Luohu — Ancient adversary who shattered Hongjun’s true body. Much later, Hongjun temporarily joins Laozi against him 247 1007 1016.
• Laozi and the Three Pure Ones — Disciples whose trust in Hongjun erodes after they learn of his alleged schemes. Laozi eventually battles him in Chaos 143 247 1006.
• Di Jun — Disciple entrusted with Hongmeng Purple Qi and powerful treasures to strengthen the Demon Race’s alliance with the Heavenly Dao 470 471.
• Eastern Duke — Resurrected with help from Hongjun’s good corpse and assigned to control the Dragon Race. Hongjun later rescues him from Luomo 504 505 832.
• Hongyun — Received a strand of Hongmeng Purple Qi from Hongjun that appeared genuine but lacked the Heavenly Dao Origin needed to help him become a Saint. Hongyun suspects a drop of Chaos Demon God essence blood he absorbed is connected to Hongjun, though this is not confirmed 239 240.

Major Arcs

• Conflict over the Three Daos: Hongjun treats the rising Human Dao and Earthly Dao as threats to his position. He sends his good corpse into the Primordial World and later instructs Heavenly Dao Saints to investigate a rival Saint Creation Plan and keep watch over Li Yun 505 784.
• Investiture of the Gods: After the Heavenly Dao places the Investiture in Yuanshi Tianzun’s hands, Hongjun announces a plan involving the Demon Race and wins Di Jun’s cooperation through promised Heavenly Court authority 930 931.
• Loss of Zixiao Palace: Li Yun strips Hongjun’s palace of treasures. After Jade Pool reports its destruction and Haotian’s death, Hongjun learns that his Chaos Demon God corpses are missing and pursues Li Yun and Luohu 1000 1006.
