Background / History

After attaining sainthood, Hongjun founded Zixiao Palace in the chaos beyond the thirty-three heavens. From there, he preached the Dao to the great powers of the Primordial Era across three sermons, each lasting three thousand years. When the sermons concluded, he accepted Laozi, Yuanshi, Tongtian, and Nuwa as disciples, while Zhunti and Jieyin became registered disciples. He also explained the three routes to Sainthood—Force, Slaying the Three Corpses, and Merit—and distributed Primordial Violet Qi to establish future Saints. 539 541

Hongjun subsequently prepared to merge with the Heavenly Dao and govern the Primordial Era's rules. Before withdrawing, he distributed major treasures to his disciples and opened the Treasure Distribution Cliff to the other great powers. 541 546

As one with the Heavenly Dao, Hongjun works to centralize control over the Primordial Era. He is implicated in long-term schemes that suppress the Human Race, the Sect of Interception, the Earth Dao, and other forces capable of escaping Heavenly Dao control. His intended Investiture of the Gods Calamity would weaken the major sects, seize human fortune, and direct the Primordial Era's future according to the Heavenly Dao's design. 127 386

Qin Hong becomes an unprecedented variable in Hongjun's plans. Hongjun cannot deduce Qin Hong's origin or background, and later suspects the Chaos Bead is concealing Heavenly Secrets. Hongjun's direct actions are constrained by his role as the Heavenly Dao's guardian. After suffering defeats at Qin Hong's hands, Hongjun allies with Old Ancestor Yin Yang and seeks further means to restore the Investiture of the Gods Calamity. The fragment of the Jade Plate of Creation exposes Hongjun's deeper objective: to sacrifice the Primordial Era's future in pursuit of survival beyond the world's destruction. Confronted by Qin Hong and the combined Earth Dao, Human Dao, and Great Dao of Sentient Beings, Hongjun reveals his mastery of the Great Dao of Time and threatens to return to the Dragon-Phoenix Beginning Calamity era to resolve the threat at its source. 517

Hongjun is calculating, patient, and intensely focused on control. He treats cultivators, sects, calamities, treasures, and even Great Daos as pieces in a larger arrangement meant to secure the Heavenly Dao's dominance. He grants opportunities generously when doing so strengthens his chosen side, but those gifts are consistently tied to cultivation tasks, loyalty, or opposition to Tongtian. 366 387 416

After merging with the Heavenly Dao, Hongjun is described as having shed ordinary emotions and desires. His speech becomes calm and detached even while ordering deaths or planning to suppress entire factions. 418 416

Despite this detachment, Qin Hong's Pangu True Body provokes visible displeasure and a sense of inferiority in him.
