Background / History
After attaining sainthood, Hongjun founded Zixiao Palace in the chaos beyond the thirty-three heavens. From there, he preached the Dao to the great powers of the Primordial Era across three sermons, each lasting three thousand years. When the sermons concluded, he accepted Laozi, Yuanshi, Tongtian, and Nuwa as disciples, while Zhunti and Jieyin became registered disciples. He also explained the three routes to Sainthood—Force, Slaying the Three Corpses, and Merit—and distributed Primordial Violet Qi to establish future Saints. 539 541
Hongjun subsequently prepared to merge with the Heavenly Dao and govern the Primordial Era's rules. Before withdrawing, he distributed major treasures to his disciples and opened the Treasure Distribution Cliff to the other great powers. 541 546
As one with the Heavenly Dao, Hongjun works to centralize control over the Primordial Era. He is implicated in long-term schemes that suppress the Human Race, the Sect of Interception, the Earth Dao, and other forces capable of escaping Heavenly Dao control. His intended Investiture of the Gods Calamity would weaken the major sects, seize human fortune, and direct the Primordial Era's future according to the Heavenly Dao's design. 127 386
Qin Hong becomes an unprecedented variable in Hongjun's plans. Hongjun cannot deduce Qin Hong's origin or background, and later suspects the Chaos Bead is concealing Heavenly Secrets. Qin Hong's treasures, physical sainthood, and support for Tongtian repeatedly undermine Hongjun's control over the Calamity. 418 539
During the Investiture of the Gods conflict, Hongjun arms and guides Laozi, Yuanshi, Zhunti, Jieyin, Haotian, and Minghe against Tongtian's faction. When their efforts fail, he abandons indirect manipulation and personally intervenes, first through avatars and eventually through his true body. 289 366 387 402 451
Hongjun's direct actions are constrained by his role as the Heavenly Dao's guardian. He must preserve the Primordial Era's rules and prevent chaos from eroding the world, making unrestricted combat dangerous even to himself. He repairs damage caused by clashes between Qin Hong, Old Ancestor Yin Yang, and the Pangu True Body, and later joins Yin Yang in restoring damaged Heavenly Dao rules. 402 426 428 432
After suffering defeats at Qin Hong's hands, Hongjun allies with Old Ancestor Yin Yang and seeks further means to restore the Investiture of the Gods Calamity. He continues cultivating his followers, attempts to shape the Journey to the West Calamity through Zhunti and Jieyin, and awakens Kunpeng as another piece on his board. 428 465 474
The fragment of the Jade Plate of Creation exposes Hongjun's deeper objective: to sacrifice the Primordial Era's future in pursuit of survival beyond the world's destruction. Confronted by Qin Hong and the combined Earth Dao, Human Dao, and Great Dao of Sentient Beings, Hongjun reveals his mastery of the Great Dao of Time and threatens to return to the Dragon-Phoenix Beginning Calamity era to resolve the threat at its source. 517
Appearance
Hongjun's presence is portrayed as remote and overwhelming. His true body is ethereal and indistinct, while an avatar is described as dressed in snow-white with an icy expression. 402 451
- His true form appears simultaneously present and unreal, “like the moon in water or a flower in a mirror.” 451
- His arrival can seal an entire battlefield through sheer pressure. 451
- When injured, he bleeds golden blood infused with laws and Dao rhymes; its descent fills the Primordial Era with spiritual energy. 451
Personality
Hongjun is calculating, patient, and intensely focused on control. He treats cultivators, sects, calamities, treasures, and even Great Daos as pieces in a larger arrangement meant to secure the Heavenly Dao's dominance. He grants opportunities generously when doing so strengthens his chosen side, but those gifts are consistently tied to cultivation tasks, loyalty, or opposition to Tongtian. 366 387 416
After merging with the Heavenly Dao, Hongjun is described as having shed ordinary emotions and desires. His speech becomes calm and detached even while ordering deaths or planning to suppress entire factions. 418 416
Despite this detachment, Qin Hong's Pangu True Body provokes visible displeasure and a sense of inferiority in him. Hongjun is particularly threatened by forces that create an independent path beyond the Heavenly Dao, such as Tongtian's Great Dao of Sentient Beings and Qin Hong's physical sainthood. 451 517
Abilities & Skills
Heavenly Dao Authority
Hongjun draws upon the laws and power of the Heavenly Dao after merging with it.
- Can suppress Heavenly Dao Saints at their root by exploiting their connection to the Heavenly Dao. 402
- His gestures can contain boundless Heavenly Dao laws; a casual grasp was intended to imprison Tongtian in Zixiao Palace permanently. 384
- Can project avatars to intervene while reducing the strain that direct action places on Heavenly Dao rules. 402
- His authority is ineffective against Qin Hong's physical sainthood, because Qin Hong's primordial spirit is not reliant on the Heavenly Dao. 402
- Cannot freely unleash all of his strength without risking severe damage to the Primordial Era and its rules. 402 432
Great Dao of Time
Hongjun has cultivated the Great Dao of Time to an extreme level.
- Claims he can return to the Dragon-Phoenix Beginning Calamity era and eliminate threats before they develop. 517
- Is connected to Daoist Shichen's downfall, having stripped Shichen of the origin of his Dao. 517
- His clash with Qin Hong's Jade Plate of Creation fragment and Chaos Bead sends Qin Hong back into the ancient Primordial Era. 518

- Restores damaged Heavenly Dao rules alongside Old Ancestor Yin Yang. 428
- Maintains much of his power to resist the chaos constantly pressing against the Primordial Era's boundaries. 432
