Background / History

Tongtian leads the Sect of Interception from Biyou Palace on Golden Ao Island. Before the Investiture of the Gods Calamity, his sect commands ten thousand immortals and holds unmatched influence. Its four chief disciples are Daoist Duobao, Saintess Jinling, Saintess Wudang, and Saintess Guiling. 1

He foresees a Great Tribulation and orders Duobao and Jinling to restrain the sect's disciples and recall those outside the island while he consults Dao Ancestor Hongjun. 1 At Zixiao Palace, he publicly identifies Qin Hong as his son, explaining that he sealed the child in chaos after an earlier calamity. 3

Hongjun later bestows the Four Swords of Zhu Xian and the Immortal Slaying Sword Formation diagram upon Tongtian, warning him of the formation's destructive nature. 541 His Qingping Sword originates from the green lotus leaf of the shattered thirty-six-grade Green Lotus of Creation. 8

As the calamity escalates, Tongtian repeatedly clashes with Laozi, Heavenly Lord of Original Beginning, Zhunti, and Jieyin over the fate of his disciples, Qin Hong, and the broader Primordial Era. He ultimately renounces his Heavenly Dao Saint position, establishes the Way of Sentience, and openly opposes Hongjun and the Heavenly Dao. 401 403 412

Personality

Tongtian is intensely protective of his family and disciples. When Qin Hong destroys the Investiture of the Gods Scroll, he accepts responsibility himself and declares that anyone who harms his son becomes his mortal enemy. 12 He extends the same protection to his disciples, refusing to release captives or surrender sect members simply because other Saints demand it. 280 283

He is direct, proud, and confrontational toward opponents, particularly Heavenly Lord of Original Beginning, Zhunti, and Jieyin. He does not hesitate to answer threats with force or to mock enemies he has surpassed. 173 186 516
