Upon coming of age, Chen Hongmian held back one million foreign enemies alone. She later guarded a Domain Path with the Red Lotus Prison Suppressing Spear; her spear energy reportedly reached hundreds of millions of miles, earning her the title Queen of the Crimson Prison and a fearsome reputation among her generation 4.

Following the attack on Chen Wen, Hongmian understood Chen Wudi's efforts to conceal the aura escaping from his body and protect the secrets of his recovery. She agreed that the four principal culprits should not be allowed to escape, leaving their punishment to Chen Wen once he awakened. She later accompanied him when it was time to settle the matter 8 12.

When Chen Wen implicated Chen Baxuan in the scheme against him, Hongmian believed her younger brother despite the lack of firm evidence. She ordered one hundred thousand Crimson Prison Army soldiers to rush to the Chen Clan, declaring that she would personally seek justice if the clan failed to do so 70 70. She also explained that Chen Baxuan was their second uncle by adoption: their grandfather had adopted him after his original faction suffered devastating losses while defending the clan 70. Hongmian subsequently supported Chen Wen's decision to dissolve his marriage arrangement with Lou Lan Shengxue 80.

Hongmian was pursued and severely injured by Heavenly King Zhou Yitian and two Heavenly Prodigies; rather than submit to capture, she attempted to take her own life 556. Her disappearance prompted a full mobilization of the Vermilion Bird army and frantic efforts by the Ye Clan and her adoptive family to find her. Their suspicions of Zhou Yitian caused repeated clashes between the opposing forces, nearly escalating into war 558. Hongmian is openly combative, decisive, and intensely protective of Chen Wen. She does not tolerate threats against him: when Chen Wushuang threatened her brother, she immediately impaled him through the chest and declared that anyone threatening Chen Wen would die first 283.

Her public ferocity contrasts with a notably gentler manner around Chen Wen. She trusts his judgment, worries over his safety, supports his independent choices, and is willing to place herself in danger to protect him 70 336 389 631. Even after having her memories suppressed by the Phoenix Clan, she secretly recovered them and refused Phoenix Emperor Jun's demand that she kill Chen Wen 629 632.
