Background

Ace was raised in Dadan’s mountain bandit household and regarded Garp as his grandfather. When he first met Mo Xingchen, he accepted him as an uncle after Garp’s encouragement. 44

Mo Xingchen told Ace that both of his parents were dead, describing his mother as a great parent and his father as a hero to his comrades but an unqualified husband and father. Ace later learns that his father was Pirate King Gol D. Roger, while his mother, Portgas D. Personality

Ace is fiercely independent. As a child, he rejects Shanks’ invitation to join the Red Hair Pirates, declaring that he will begin his own legendary career rather than follow another captain. 106

He is compassionate toward civilians and gathers many future Spade Pirates after rescuing them from oppressive nobles. His hostility toward nobles earns him a bounty, but Marine intelligence considers his underlying nature kind despite his extreme methods. 146 202
