Background / History

Garp was present at Gol D. Roger's execution in Loguetown. He ordered the execution when the situation threatened to spiral out of control, then confronted Mo Xingchen after noticing his interest in Roger's alleged treasure. Judging Mo Xingchen's potential, he invited him to join the Marines. 3

After sparring with Mo Xingchen at the Loguetown Marine branch, Garp brought him into his orbit rather than sending him to Zephyr's Elite Training Camp. He taught Mo Xingchen the Marine Six Styles and withheld deeper Armament Haki instruction until his disciple had a stronger foundation. 4 5
