Background / History

Wang Meng served as a captain in Black Stone County's yamen. He personally tested Ji Ye during his application for a constable position, first confirming that Ji Ye had lifted a genuine hundred-pound stone lock and then using a forceful pat to assess his foundation. Impressed by Ji Ye's resilience and fighting spirit, he hired him immediately. 3

As Ji Ye's superior, Wang Meng was stern, pragmatic, and deeply involved in the yamen's corrupt tribute system. He sold Ji Ye the military-origin Mountain Splitting Saber Technique for ten taels of silver, recognizing that its power-focused style suited Ji Ye's natural strength. 5 After Zhao Ba Pi was crippled, Wang Meng promoted Ji Ye to lead Team D and made the promotion conditional on maintaining order and revenue in the Ghost Market. 7

When the Black Tiger Gang targeted Ji Ye for killing the Bone-Scraping Marquis, Wang Meng refused to hand his subordinate over despite pressure from the county magistrate.
