Background / History

Ei governs Inazuma while pursuing an ideal of Eternity. To preserve that ideal and avoid being swayed by personal emotion, she created the Raiden Shogun puppet to administer the nation in her stead and normally resides within the Sanctum of Euthymia. Her separation from the outside world was shaped by the loss of her sister Makoto and other companions. 141 152 153

After receiving proof that Bai Ye could safely absorb Archon Residue, Ei ordered his invitation to Inazuma. Venti subsequently warned her that Bai Ye was not merely useful against residue, but a natural enemy of the Abyss whose safety had consequences reaching the Heavenly Principles. 141

Ei initially tried to distance herself from Bai Ye because his presence unsettled her emotions and recalled the optimism of her former companions. Despite this, she entrusted him with full authority over the Yashima operation, including access to Inazuma’s personnel and resources, so that he could resolve Orobas’s corrupted remnants. 152 153

Bai Ye’s recovery of Lady Guuji, Makoto’s residual consciousness, and Miyoshi Chiyo forced Ei to confront the past she had tried to preserve unchanged. Following these events, she abolished both the Sakoku Decree and Vision Hunt Decree, opened Inazuma to normal diplomacy, and began personally teaching Bai Ye swordsmanship. 175 176 177
