Background / History

Bai Ye was an Earth student before falling from a twentieth-floor building and transmigrating to Teyvat. He possessed no system or newly awakened power upon arrival, but encountered a severely weakened Archon remnant soul in a Serenitea Pot. The soul, initially known to him as Hagintos, taught him everything she could remember of Adeptal Arts and the Art of Automata. Bai Ye consequently treats restoring and protecting her as his foremost priority. 1 11

A month after arriving in Liyue Harbor, he had established himself as an exceptionally productive bounty hunter. His mass captures of Treasure Hoarders dismantled several gangs and made him a familiar figure among local bounty hunters, while nearly all of his earnings went toward acquiring Floating Stones to sustain Hagintos. 1

Zhongli eventually identifies Hagintos as Guizhong and regards Bai Ye as her successor. Though Bai Ye initially hides his teacher's existence and fears Zhongli's scrutiny, Zhongli arranges his appointment as Liyue's Liaison Envoy and quietly enlists the Adepti to teach and protect him. 58 60 103 126

Bai Ye is highly competitive, resourceful, and pragmatic. As a bounty hunter, he routinely pursued far more targets than necessary, partly to finance Floating Stones for Hagintos. He is also an adept negotiator, as shown when he accepts Yelan's investigation job only after securing additional payment. 1 3

His ambition extends beyond personal wealth. He envisions universally accessible transportation, railways, and industrial development that could reshape Liyue and eventually the Seven Nations. When work captures his interest, he neglects rest and becomes completely absorbed in design. 14

Despite his bravado, he is deeply protective of his teacher and willing to endure pain or exhaustion to help others. His willingness to absorb karmic debt, Archon Residue, Abyss power, and Albedo's corruption repeatedly places him at risk. 74 134 224
