Technology was the core of a civilization and a crucial pillar of territorial development. It could benefit the entire territory, affecting heroes, troop types, buildings, items, and every other aspect. Some civilization technologies could even unlock special troop types, special buildings, or grant special skills to troops and heroes.
For example, the Yellow Heaven Gunpowder technology Xu Yang had previously unlocked through the "Rifle Manufacturing" blueprint. Once the Yellow Turban Civilization acquired that technology, it directly unlocked the special building Yellow Heaven Gunpowder House, the special troop type Yellow Turban Thunder Hand, and the distinctive item Heavenly Thunder Bomb.
That was the benefit of civilization technology.
But civilization technology was not so easy to obtain.
Take "Gunpowder Manufacturing" as an example again. Xu Yang had sacrificed the "Rifle Manufacturing" blueprint to a Civilization Wonder, and only after the Civilization Wonder transformed it did it become the "Yellow Heaven Gunpowder" technology usable by the Yellow Turban Civilization.
Therefore, if one wanted to obtain technology, one first needed a technological item such as a blueprint, then sacrifice it to a Civilization Wonder. Only then was there a certain chance of obtaining that technology or a mutated technology.
Blueprints themselves were one thing, but the main issue was the chance of obtaining technology. It depended both on luck and compatibility. Only with good luck and high compatibility could one possibly acquire technology.
If one was unlucky, or did not understand the compatibility between a technology and one's own civilization, then out of ten technology blueprints, nine might fail, leaving one with nothing but ruin.
Again, take the earlier "Rifle Manufacturing" as an example. Although its mutation into "Yellow Heaven Gunpowder" technology had mostly relied on luck, there had also been a trace of compatibility—it could be somewhat connected to "Sorcerer Pill Refining, discovering
