Background / History
Gu Cangyue serves as Suzhou Prefecture's Chief Constable while operating as a Cangfeng Fortress agent. He was personally granted the right to choose an official post after saving the founding emperor; under his fortress's direction, he selected wealthy Suzhou. He later reflects that the post has made him personally worth more than a million. 1
When Yan Tao arrives carrying the Sword Pellet and Azure Spirit Pills, Gu joins Lang Tianli, Zhao Lingtian, and the Flower Protector Young Master in attempting to seize the treasures. He exploits his authority to mobilize constables, garrison soldiers, and the Divine Crossbow Camp, then attempts to justify the operation as the lawful pursuit of a wanted criminal. 1 2 3
After the treasures are stolen by street thieves, Gu orders Suzhou's gangs and hoodlums rounded up and interrogated. His fury is driven as much by the humiliation inflicted on Cangfeng Fortress as by the loss of the Sword Pellet. 3
Over the following six years, the Nine Yin Devouring Yang Palm leaves his cultivation damaged. He remains chief constable but becomes thinner and more steeped in calculation while his power is diminished. 34
Li Feng later restores and substantially improves his cultivation with Jade Ginseng. In exchange, Gu assists Li Feng and the Golden Dragon Gang against the White Emperor Sect and Golden Tiger Gang. He uses false criminal accusations, garrison troops, arrests, and executions to eliminate the Golden Tiger Gang and consolidate control over Suzhou's underworld and trade. 34 35
With his strength restored, Gu moves to remove Long Qianli, the Earth Fiend Star sent by a rival Cangfeng Fortress faction to “assist” him in Suzhou. Li Feng incapacitates Long, allowing Gu to reassert sole control over the fortress's local interests. 36 37
When Li Feng leaves Suzhou, Gu views his departure as an opportunity to rule the city without sharing influence. Nevertheless, Li Feng leaves him access to substantial funds and Rejuvenation Pills through A Zhu. 37 38
