Formation and Circulation
True Essence is the denser energy produced after True Qi undergoes sublimation. Lu Qingfeng first achieves it through lightning tribulation: his True Qi is condensed and transformed, allowing a wisp of True Essence to circulate through his body and open his acupoints 64.
At the Qi-Drawing Realm, absorbed spiritual qi is circulated through the meridians, refined into True Qi, transformed into True Essence, and returned to the dantian 64. This establishes the Foundation Establishment cultivator’s ability to cultivate with spiritual qi, Spirit Stones, jade dew, and similar resources 64.

- Foundation Establishment cultivators can draw spiritual qi directly from the world and use Spirit Stones or other qi-bearing resources to restore True Essence 64.

- Spirit Stones and pills can rapidly restore depleted reserves, although they do not erase a major disparity in cultivation level or available reserves 167.
Arts, formations, and artifacts
- True Essence powers arts and Magical Artifacts; Spirit Void cultivators can amplify both through their direct connection with heaven and earth 84.
- Large-scale formation work consumes it rapidly. While establishing the formation on Chiyun Peak, Lu Qingfeng exhausted his True Essence every hour or two and required Spirit Stones and pills to continue 167.
- High-level techniques, summoned entities, and Magical Artifacts can impose enormous ongoing costs, forcing Lu Qingfeng to withdraw, consume restorative pills, and circulate his cultivation methods to recover 128.
Core Formation

Constraints and Hazards
- True Essence can become unstable if a cultivator’s state of mind cannot keep pace with its growth. In the Heart Stirring Realm, mental disorder or failure in the Heart Demon Tribulation can cause it to run wild, scatter, and destroy the cultivator’s body 84.
- External disruption can also force it out of control. The Nine Heavens Register and Heaven-and-Earth Reversal Art caused Foundation Establishment cultivators on Chiyun Peak to suffer uncontrolled True Essence, severe injuries, and—in Elder Wu Ming’s case—death 168.
- Rapid advancement requires not only abundant True Essence, but sufficient Divine Soul strength, comprehension, and cultivation-method quality; failure in any of these can halt progress before Core Formation 290.
