Background / History

Academy Recruitment and Early Training

The original student group combines established students Dai Mubai, Oscar, and Ma Hongjun with newcomers Gu Xuan, Xiao Wu, Ning Rongrong, and Zhu Zhuqing. Flender counts seven official students after recruiting the four newcomers. Tang San initially stays separately from that official count after failing the entrance assessment and gaining admission through Yu Xiaogang’s connection to Flender 29 34.

Shrek’s entrance examination emphasizes practical combat experience rather than Soul Power alone. Gu Xuan’s group skips the intermediate examinations because of their qualifications, but still faces the final combat test 25.

Their early collective training includes an expedition to the Star Dou Great Forest to obtain Oscar’s third ring. Zhao Wuji supervises while requiring the students to handle lesser threats themselves. At Gu Xuan’s suggestion, Dai Mubai leads the formation, support members remain in the center, and Gu Xuan and Zhu Zhuqing guard the rear. Tang San’s negligence ultimately costs Oscar a thousand-year ring opportunity 29 38.

Soto Great Spirit Arena

Flender’s second training stage focuses on practical combat. He gives each student a numbered alias and a Shrek-emblem mask, initially excluding Tang San from the regular team lineup 47 50.

Shrek’s victory over the Berserk Team ends its opponent’s seven-win streak. Gu Xuan’s performance earns widespread attention, and Zhao Wuji proposes developing him as the team’s core. The team subsequently builds a perfect record of twenty-seven consecutive team-battle victories 67 68 72.

That record leads Manager Ao to recruit Shrek for a central-arena battle against the Imperial Dou Team. Tang San replaces Ma Hongjun in the starting lineup, but Gu Xuan ultimately turns the battle around and secures victory. Flender treats the match as the successful examination concluding the second training stage 75 77 80 94 95.

Relocation and Reestablishment

The original Shrek Academy lacks the registration and facilities needed to enter the continental tournament. Cooperation with Heaven Dou Royal Academy offers competition eligibility, improved cultivation resources, and positions for Shrek’s teachers. Flender explicitly promises that the Shrek Team name will remain 102 116.

The group receives accommodations and a welcome banquet arranged by Qin Ming, but the proposed cooperation collapses after Prince Xue Xing’s intervention. Shrek leaves the Royal Academy and remains in Heaven Dou City to consider its future 151 156 159.

Liu Erlong then offers Blue Tyrant Academy to Flender and announces that it will be renamed Shrek. Before the tournament, Gu Xuan strengthens the seven-member core with immortal pills, while Dugu Bo agrees to become an academy advisor 164 175.

Appearance and Team Identity

  • Arena masks: Green masks depicting the Shrek monster emblem. Flender also instructs members to speak sparingly onstage so opponents cannot discover their ages 50.
  • Concealed entrances: As their popularity grows, members enter the Soto arena in ordinary clothes, then change and put on their masks inside 73.
  • Tournament uniforms: Yellow-green outfits described by Dai Mubai as “shit green,” with a large emerald Shrek emblem across the chest 178.
  • Advertising: The uniforms initially display “Sponsorship naming rights available” across the back, with instructions to contact Flender about fees 178.
  • Revenue agreement: After the students protest, Flender agrees to distribute one-third of advertising revenue to competing members and retain the rest for academy construction 178.

Abilities & Skills

Complementary Team Composition

  • Flender advocates individual extremity and group balance: each member develops a specialized strength while teammates compensate for weaknesses and poor endurance 202.
  • The roster combines assault, agility attack, food support, amplification, healing, and control capabilities rather than relying on one shared attribute 80 176.
  • Gu Xuan acts as the strongest fallback, but the other members explicitly recognize that they cannot depend on him to rescue every battle 85.

Leadership and Adaptation

  • Gu Xuan devises formations and advance tactics; Dai Mubai directs their execution and adapts them on the field 29 194 199.
  • Flender sometimes withholds opponent information until immediately before a match to develop Dai Mubai’s ability to react under battlefield conditions 204.
  • In the Blazing Fire Academy battle, Dai Mubai uses close-combat footwork learned from Gu Xuan. Spectators distinguish the technique from a soul-bone ability 207.

Sustained Combat and Amplification

  • Oscar’s restorative sausages replenish expended Soul Power, allowing Dai Mubai to continue fighting after substantial expenditure 198.
  • Ning Rongrong provides Spirit Power amplification and assists exhausted teammates after the Elephant Armored Academy victory 199.
  • In the championship battle, her Nine Treasures Glazed Tile Pagoda supports the team’s divided engagements 287.

Aerial Mobility

  • Oscar’s Flying Mushroom Sausages enable flight without requiring each member to possess a flying martial soul 195 286.
  • Testing establishes a carrying limit of approximately five hundred jin. Against Elephant Armored Academy, Dai Mubai carries the other six members after they lighten their bodies to remain within the limit 195.
  • The team uses flight to neutralize Elephant Armored Academy’s ground pressure and escape the red mist of Xie Yue and Hu Liena’s fusion skill 199 286 287.

Fusion Techniques and Formations

  • The team has used a Seven-in-One Fusion Technique, but does not employ it at the start of the championship match 283.
  • Its championship formation is two-three-two: Gu Xuan and Dai Mubai in front; Zhu Zhuqing, Ma Hongjun, and Xiao Wu in the middle; Ning Rongrong and Oscar at the rear 283.
  • After escaping Spirit Hall’s red mist, Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing confront Yan, while Ma Hongjun and Xiao Wu engage three Battle Spirit Masters 287.

Skywater Academy Shui Bing’er’s ice control and her fusion skill with Xue Wu overwhelm the fielded lineup. Dai Mubai is disheartened by the resulting loss 221 222 224.
Final placement Shrek finishes third, behind Godwind Academy and Thunder Academy, and receives its qualification certificate 224.

Heaven Dou Empire Individual-Elimination Stage

  • Matches proceed through successive individual fights: each winner remains onstage until defeated, and a team loses when all seven representatives are eliminated. There is no rest between consecutive fights 231 232.
  • Flender initially plans to rely on Xiao Wu, Dai Mubai, and Ma Hongjun against the Balak Kingdom academy rather than expect all seven members to fight 231.
  • After Huo Wu severely injures Dai Mubai, Xiao Wu and Zhu Zhuqing finish the next three matches between them. Xiao Wu defeats at least four opponents in each 247.
  • Plant Academy’s Level 41 vine-control fighter defeats Tailong, Huang Yuan, and Jing Ling consecutively. This is an individual-fight setback, not the end of Shrek’s team winning streak 247 264.
  • Against Skywater Academy, Ma Hongjun defeats Shui Bing’er and Xue Wu separately, preventing their fusion skill. Dai Mubai then finishes the match 256.
  • Huang Yuan defeats three Thunder Academy opponents by forcing them to waste Soul Power. Xiao Wu later draws with Lei Dong by countering his God Locking Ring with Invincible Golden Body 257 264.
  • Shrek finishes first among fifteen teams, with fourteen consecutive team victories 264.
