Background / History
Shrek Academy began as a severely under-resourced school in an ordinary village outside Suotuo City. Its entrance consisted of a battered plaque, an aged wooden registration table, and crude facilities that were smaller than Nuoding Junior Spirit Master Academy; nevertheless, more than a hundred applicants lined up for its entrance examination. 23
Its financial situation remained precarious even after it produced exceptional students. Former student Qin Ming described the academy's financial problems as unresolved, while Zhao Wuji feared the current cohort could be its final group of students. The academy was not officially registered with a kingdom or empire because it lacked the required physical infrastructure, which prevented it from entering the continental academy tournament under its own original conditions. 96 102
Flender brought the faculty and students to Heaven Dou Royal Academy seeking a place to continue teaching and compete. Although the Committee of Elders welcomed Shrek and praised its graduates, Prince Xue Xing's intervention resulted in the group leaving the royal academy. 153 159 161
Afterward, Flender encountered Liu Erlong at Lanba Academy. Liu Erlong transferred the academy to him, announced that it would be renamed Shrek Academy, and allowed its staff and students to make it their new home. The former Lanba facilities were inferior to Heaven Dou Royal Academy's but substantially better than Shrek's original village campus. 164 165
Campus and Admissions
Original Campus
- The original academy occupied an ordinary village near Suotuo City and was marked by a worn plaque bearing its name. 23
- A wooden table at the village entrance served as the registration point; Li Yusong, a Soul Emperor, was initially mistaken for an ordinary gatekeeper. 23
- The original campus's limited infrastructure later prevented official tournament registration. 102
Entrance Examination
Shrek's entrance examination has four stages and prioritizes practical ability over pedigree. Exceptional candidates may skip the second and third stages, but the final stage tests real combat experience; applicants who rely on family protection or hired Soul Beast hunters are rejected despite strong Martial Souls or Soul Power. 25
Tang San failed the normal assessment but was allowed to enroll temporarily through Yu Xiaogang's letter and his connection to Flender. Zhao Wuji later warned that Tang San would be expelled if he acted without permission again. 29 33

Educational Approach
Flender teaches an “individual extreme, team balanced” approach: each Spirit Master should maximize a specialized personal strength, while teammates cover one another's weaknesses. He presents this as Shrek's alternative to both purely focused Extreme Faction cultivation and conventional Balanced Faction development. 202
- Students undergo special training shortly after enrollment. 29
- Training includes practical Soul Beast expeditions; Zhao Wuji led the students into the Star Dou Great Forest to obtain Oscar's third Soul Ring, treating the journey as a trial rather than a protected hunt. 29
- Flender considers practical combat and sustained cultivation essential after spirit-duel training. 73 99
- The academy assigns numerical codenames by age for Great Spirit Arena matches to conceal students' identities. 50 73
