Background

The sect was founded after its ancestor acquired an incomplete jade slip containing the Primordial Five Elements True Scripture, a peerless Mind Method based on the mutual generation and restraint of the Five Elements. Because its essential “general principle” was fragmented and unclear, the ancestor separated the remaining teachings into five independently cultivable Mind Methods, establishing the five institutes that form the sect's foundation. The complete method cannot be reconstructed merely by cultivating all five branches without the lost general principle. 137

By the time of its seven-hundredth anniversary, Wutai Sect had become one of Yunlin Prefecture's Four Great Sects, with affiliated clans, a standing Wutai Army, a network of disciples, and five Gang Strength institute heads. 24 133 Under He Yuzhou's leadership, it grew strong enough that Hanyu Valley regarded it as a challenge to its traditional supremacy in Yunlin. 152

Its status remains constrained by Tianbao Supreme Sect. Wutai Sect relies on the Supreme Sect's protection to retain control of resources such as the Earth Core Milk Cave, while higher inheritances and True Origin Realm resources are generally monopolized by the Supreme Sect. 159 190
