"Huh? The Gotham Villain Profession Certification?"
Eileen, who had just instantly killed Ghost Princess, looked at the achievement notification that popped up on her status panel in surprise.
As soon as Eileen spoke, she saw Cheng Tian rush towards her, immediately raising his shield and holding it at a forty-five-degree angle above his head, his sharp eyes scanning every possible hiding spot.
"The old bat from Gotham must be watching from somewhere. I'm guessing he's here in person."
As someone who had already received this honor, Cheng Tian immediately made a judgment.
Although Cheng Tian wasn't a true Shield Guard, with the defensive performance boost from Shield Master, he could still play the role of a bodyguard. Furthermore, when he signed the Gray Contract, he had already clarified his team role. At least in the current mission world, Eileen would be the one he guarded.
"Open the treasure chest! Let's run!" Eileen immediately gave the highest order.
"Understood." Cheng Tian ran without a word.
Clearly, the two players, who were "officially" recognized as Arkham VIP Customers, didn't want to get entangled with Batman.
As mentioned before, there were quite a few players who treated friendly NPCs, dungeon monsters, and enemies as the same. These players would attack their own allies and teammates for "Protagonist's Armament."
However, from the moment they made their move, the dungeon had undergone an almost irreversible change. The game save of a player who killed an ally would directly carry over to every subsequent dungeon. And it wasn't just the corresponding instance, even other game instances that were referenced, mentioned, or shared the same worldview would be affected.
Making a choice meant bearing the consequences, which was also a possibility the Space wanted to see unfold.
As for the Twin Sister Yaksha, who fled in another direction... Cheng Tian had no ability to pursue, and Eileen would be weakened for a while after using that Fusion Combat Skill, so it was fine that they escaped. There would be opportunities later.
Crouching on the rooftop like a statue, Batman stared blankly at the corpse of Ghost Princess, still pinned to the abandoned factory door. Then, he shifted his gaze to Cheng Tian and Eileen, who were fleeing towards the financial district, but he did not choose to pursue.
The elusive Batman always appeared precisely wherever an incident occurred in Gotham City. He naturally wouldn't miss the fight involving Cheng Tian and the others, especially since they hadn't even tried to conceal themselves.
But unlike the numerous petty thieves and robbers who were like rats crossing the street, or direct gang warfare, Batman saw the confrontation between Cheng Tian, Eileen, and the Twin Sisters as nothing more than a dogfight between Supervillains.
Batman, based on the 1989 movie version, wouldn't use overly drastic measures to deal with ordinary criminals outside the judicial system, but this version of Batman had personally killed the Joker.
Also, don't forget that he was the one who posted the bounty mission for killing gang members to obtain mission items.
So, this Batman didn't have the severe "no-kill principle" that his counterparts in other dimensions had.
Furthermore, although he had already identified Cheng Tian and Eileen as Arkham VIPs, he also noticed that the targets they attacked were all gang members and other Supervillains. They didn't seem interested in ordinary people. Therefore, the ones who should truly feel threatened by letting them act freely should be the Assassin Moth and their gang of Supervillains.
However, speaking of which, the gangs, which were now like a poison, had infiltrated every corner of Gotham City. This made a living gang leader far more important than a dead one. Once a gang leader died, the gang would inevitably fall into a power struggle, and other gangs would clash to seize territory, ultimately causing suffering to the common citizens of Gotham.
Setting aside the "twisted values" of the Scallop Warrior, the archer who was very decisive in killing would likely try to attack the Assassin Moth again. And judging by the situation, this man and woman were already allied, which could only mean that the Assassin Moth's danger level would significantly increase.
Now, the problem arises—
Should they try to solve the problem of the Assassin Moth being continuously attacked from the source? Or should they directly consider how to stabilize the entire Moth Gang after the Assassin Moth's death?
Batman fell into deep thought.
"They didn't chase us."
Eileen, frowning slightly from smelling the air filled with industrial dust in Gotham, gestured for Cheng Tian to slow down.
Cheng Tian nodded, calming his racing heart from the exercise.
But soon, Cheng Tian lived up to his good tradition of asking questions when he didn't understand, directly asking.
"Can you tell me about the price of killing players, and the rules related to that bloody treasure chest?"
"No problem~"
For some reason, Eileen seemed a little happy to hear Cheng Tian ask and nodded in agreement.
In simple terms, killing one player would forcibly grant 1 PK Value. As the PK Value accumulated, the drop rate of "Bloody Treasure Chests" upon player death would increase in stages.
Normally, a White Name killing a White Name would result in becoming a Red Name. Killing a Red Name while being a White Name wouldn't make you a Red Name, but it would still increase your PK Value.
Of course, there was also a judgment issue. If both were White Names, and the one who attacked first was killed, the killer would still remain a White Name.
The accumulation of PK Value for Red Names might lead to ostracization by the protagonist faction, which primarily upholds righteous values, thus causing a forced shift in the player's faction. The possibility of being assigned to an enemy faction in dungeon characters would gradually increase, and the frequency of faction confrontation-related entries in dungeons would rise.
There might even be bounty missions specifically targeting heavily Red-named players.
However, Red Name players were also a form of player existence. They also had some special privileges that White Name players did not enjoy.
For example, in some dungeons where "killing protagonist faction/friendly NPCs yields no drops," Red Name players could ignore this condition, treat NPCs as monsters, and get relatively normal drop rates.
At the same time, when the PK Value reached a certain level, they would be eligible to use some Special PK Gear that could only be used in player-versus-player combat.
In short, Red Name players were also an optional playstyle for Chosen Players, but it didn't align with Cheng Tian's gaming aesthetic.
Making incomparably powerful demons and monsters kneel and beg, and then tearing out their spines amidst their terror and wails – that was Cheng Tian's favorite scene.
"Are you a Red Name then?"
Cheng Tian once again asked a relatively sensitive question, unsure if he was genuinely naive or deliberately provocative.
"What? Scared?"
Eileen, while checking the strings of her Elf Bow, gave Cheng Tian a sideways glance and retorted directly.
"Of course not~"
Cheng Tian said, revealing a friendly smile that caused Eileen, who was comprehensively stronger than him, to get goosebumps.
