Background

Xue Beng is the Fourth Prince of the Heaven Dou Empire and son of Emperor Xue Ye. Before entering the succession struggle, he deliberately cultivated the image of a dissolute, idle noble, spending his time drinking, gambling, and pursuing women. This façade protected him from the ruthlessness of Crown Prince Xue Qinghe, whom Xue Beng feared would eliminate any brother who appeared politically capable 35 36.

Chen Chu identifies Xue Beng as a viable alternative to Xue Qinghe and approaches him with an offer: military support, official backing, influence over Xue Ye, and assistance improving his weak Swan Martial Soul.
