(Cough, cough! First of all, the ending of this book is definitely not a dream.)
As Darth Malthael ventured deeper, the Dark Side Force within the dark cave surged and gathered ever more violently, as though the entire starfield were trembling because of it.
Darkness swallowed the light like a tide. A low voice came from the depths of the cave, as if countless Darth Malthaels were whispering.
Those voices reached straight into the depths of his soul, as though he were dissecting himself. Every whisper tore at his will and interrogated the foundation of his beliefs. So long as his mind wavered even slightly, the darkness would seep like a living thing into the cracks of his thoughts and completely shred his sanity.
The stronger the power of the Dark Side became, the stronger its erosion of the mind became as well. This was an eternal rule, just as the stronger the power of the Light Side became, the more one had to control one's emotions.
Light and darkness had always been utterly opposing forces. If one wanted power, one had to bear the consequences. If one wanted no side effects at all, then one would gain nothing—just like Jedi I tens of thousands of years ago.
And the so-called unified Force meant wielding two opposing powers at once, even plunging oneself into two contradictory emotions. The Daughter had once said that even The Ones could not attain such a state. It was a realm that truly belonged to gods.
