Background / History
Taiyuan Sect was among the top five of Great Qi's Nine Great Sects and possessed a deep foundation. It recruited disciples every five years, drawing candidates through both Taiyuan City and Taiyuan Town. 6 7 9
Taiyuan Town was a sect-developed mortal settlement whose residents mined resources for the sect. It served cultivation families with immortal-cultivation backgrounds, while Taiyuan City was the sect's public-facing city, open to the wider cultivation world. Passing Taiyuan Town's assessment offered greater benefits. 9
Fang Wang's admission marked an exceptional event: after dominating the entrance competition, he became the first person in Taiyuan Sect history to be accepted directly as a Personal Disciple upon entry. He chose the Third Branch despite its eighth-place resource ranking, drawn by its profound inheritance. 12 13 14
The sect concealed Fang Wang's Heaven Origin Treasure Spirit after his Spirit Molding, believing the other eight great sects would seek to eliminate him if its existence became known. Guang Qiuxian privately designated Fang Wang as the future Sect Master. 17 18
Internal turmoil emerged around Lu Yuanjun, whose outer disciples were implicated in massacres across Great Qi. The sect's leadership later moved to punish him, while Yang Yuanzi advocated making Fang Wang Head Disciple. 22 71
Following devastating attacks by the Demonic Path, Taiyuan Sect lost nearly twenty thousand disciples. Its reputation nevertheless rose sharply after Fang Wang fought through Green Cicada Valley; within a year, the sect had replenished its losses and received resources, disciples, and overtures from cultivation families and other Righteous Path sects. 88 91
Chen Anshi, the former Vice Sect Master, ultimately defected to the Chimo Sect. Fang Wang was promoted to Taiyuan Sect Head Disciple, gaining broad support among the sect's disciples. 93 94
After Guang Qiuxian's death, Fang Wang moved into Shiyuan Hall and acted as temporary Sect Master. He declined to formally take the position, while Zhou Xue proposed selecting and cultivating a successor from the Fang Manor descendants. 120 124

Branches and peaks
- Taiyuan Sect consists of the Main Peak and nine branches or veins, with the ten peaks surrounding the Sect Main City. 13 64
- Each branch possesses its own inherited cultivation methods and spells. 42
- The Third Branch had more than two thousand disciples, including outer disciples, and five Personal Disciples after Fang Wang joined. 13
- Though the Third Branch ranked eighth in overall strength and resources at the time of Fang Wang's admission, its inheritance was regarded as the most profound. 13
- The Third Branch is led by Yang Yuanzi, who personally accepts its Personal Disciples as his own disciples. 13
Contribution system
- The Mission Hall maintains ten Contribution Pillars: one for each of the nine lineages and a central pillar for the sect-wide ranking. 34
- Contribution points record the standing of disciples and elders; the central ranking is occupied by the sect's foremost powerhouses. 34
- Missions are also intended to bind disciples more closely to the sect, making it harder for infiltrators to return to an opposing allegiance. 34
- Outstanding contributions, alongside reaching the Spirit Pill Realm, are required to contend for Head Disciple. 14
Territory and Facilities
- Shiyuan Hall — Main Peak palace and seat of the Sect Master; it contains restrictions that prevent eavesdropping. 13 71
- Sect Main City — A vast city situated among the sect's peaks, populated by disciples, flying-sword cultivators, and spirit-beast mounts. 13
- Taiyuan Town — Sect-developed settlement linked to cultivation families; its residents mine resources for Taiyuan Sect. 9
- Taiyuan City — The sect's public city, open to cultivators across the immortal cultivation world. 9
- Dao Law Pavilion — Stores cultivation manuals and Dao laws. Head Disciples may study every technique within it. 14 97
- Magic Artifact Hall — Distributes storage bags, flying swords, talisman paper, spirit stones, and other artifacts. 13
- Pill Hall — Provides Spirit Qi Pills and other cultivation resources. 13
- Spirit Sculpting grounds — The Main Peak's grounds are especially effective for Spirit Molding and contain a massive Heavenly Dao Spirit Stone. 16
- Personal Disciple cave dwellings — Spacious residences with dense spiritual energy, white jade beds, and independent cultivation space. 13
Inheritances and Resources
Nine Heavens Azure Thunder Sword Formation
Taiyuan Sect's strongest formation and the Third Branch's most profound inheritance. It may be cast by a single cultivator, possesses world-conquering power, and also functions as the sect's mountain-protecting heritage. 13 14
- Requires exceptional contribution and the rank of Head Disciple to study. 14
- No cultivator was known to have mastered it when Fang Wang first entered the sect. 13
- Fang Wang later obtained and mastered the formation after earning eight hundred thousand contribution points. 70 71
Treasure Spirit cultivation
The sect recognizes four ranks of natal Treasure Spirits: Yellow Origin, Mysterious Origin, Earth Origin, and Heaven Origin, each divided into low-, mid-, high-, and ultimate-grade tiers. 16
- Before Fang Wang, Taiyuan Sect's historical record was a low-grade Earth Origin Treasure Spirit. 16
- Lu Yuanjun's mid-grade Earth Origin Treasure Spirit surpassed that record and was credited with the sect's resurgence. 16
- Fang Wang's Heaven Origin Treasure Spirit was concealed to prevent hostile sects from targeting him and Taiyuan Sect. 17 18
Personal Disciple privileges
- A Personal Disciple may select three superior secret manuals from the Dao Law Pavilion. 14
- They receive regular cultivation resources without fixed daily duties. 13
- Fang Wang's initial rewards included a personal disciple jade pendant, storage bag, flying sword, talisman paper, spirit stones, and ten bottles of Spirit Qi Pills. 13
Major Conflicts
Great Sage's Grotto-Heaven expedition
Taiyuan Sect sent nine elite disciples to explore the Great Sage's Grotto-Heaven alongside the other great sects. The six-month expedition barred accompanying great cultivators, allowed participants to retain their findings, and nominally prohibited carrying grudges outside. 45 46
- Seven Taiyuan Sect disciples returned alive: Fang Wang, Zhou Xue, Gu Li, Lu Yuanjun, Xu Lang, Ye Xiang, and Yan Feiyue. 60
- The sect lost two participants, fewer than many rival sects. 60
- Departing sects remained vigilant despite the agreement, treating its prohibition on outside reprisals as little more than a public pretense. 60
Demonic Path invasions
Taiyuan Sect suffered a major assault by Demonic Path sects that killed nearly twenty thousand disciples, its greatest loss in almost three hundred years. 88
- The leadership debated retaliation, with elders proposing a joint war alongside Taiqing Sect, Xuanhong Sword Sect, Tianshu Sect, and Crimson Sun Sect. 88
- Chen Anshi argued that the sect needed time to recuperate before pursuing revenge. 88
- Later, Chen Anshi was exposed as a traitor who had joined the Chimo Sect. 93
Green Cicada Valley
Green Cicada Valley mobilized nearly twenty thousand disciples to surround and kill Fang Wang after Taiyuan Sect's conflict with the Demonic Path. 88
- Fang Wang's subsequent campaign through Green Cicada Valley elevated Taiyuan Sect's standing throughout Great Qi. 91
- The victory attracted cultivation families bearing resources and seeking to send their younger members into the sect. 91
Haoqi Sect pressure
The Haoqi Sect attempted to force Fang Wang to join them and camped at Taiyuan Sect while refusing to leave. 119
- Fang Wang intimidated Haoqi Sect Supreme Elder Yadaoren and disciple Xu Guang into apologizing and departing within ten breaths. 119
- Taiyuan Sect responded to broader external pressure by establishing mutual support with the Golden Cloud Sect. 120
Defenses
- During Fang Wang's Duxu Realm lightning tribulation, more than one hundred thousand disciples maintained the sect's formation against the heavenly lightning. 126
- The formation was strained as the tribulation intensified, with its sustaining cultivators turning pale under the pressure. 126
- Taiyuan Sect can deploy large formations alongside organized groups of elite disciples during major campaigns. 498 500
