The fifth day of the adventure.
Under Serie's guidance, Rhode successfully learned the warning magic, but with the support of his created talent and some modern scientific knowledge, it instead transformed into a magic of a different concept.
Watching the blue magic circle in Rhode's hand, waves of magical power emanated from him and spread outward. Serie only sensed it for a moment before showing some surprise.
"You've merged Detection Magic and Warning Magic into one?"
In Serie's perception, the ripples of magic continuously spread outward, enveloping several hundred meters around. The magical power was very faint—hard to notice without careful attention, and naturally, it would be difficult for anyone to detect that they were being probed.
On Rhode's magic circle, small dots were displayed.
These dots were the lifeforms Rhode had detected, and even the movement directions of these lifeforms were shown on his magic circle.
"Yeah, I optimized it a bit. What do you think of calling this new magic the Radar Technique?"
When Rhode first saw these two magics, he wanted to do this.
Warning magic could locate an enemy's position, and Detection Magic could scout the enemy.
Rhode: "Hey, I've got a great idea!"
And so, Radar Magic was born.
"A name with unclear meaning. Is there any basis for it?"
"Well..."
Rhode didn't know how to explain it to her. He couldn't exactly say it was the power of science, could he?
"Then let's call it the Great Detection Technique." Clearly, our master ancestor's naming skills weren't much better. "Unfortunately, the mana consumption is too high; it's not very practical."
Rhode nodded and then stopped the Great Detection Technique. In just this short time, he felt that a fifth of his mana had been drained, equivalent to casting three Arrow Rains in a row.
Probably only someone like Serie, with her vast mana reserves, could keep it active for long periods.
"Is there any way to increase mana?"
Rhode's mana was very low, as Serie had mentioned before.
According to her, any random Elf who could walk had more mana than him, which dealt quite a blow to Rhode.
There was no helping it—he had been in this world for less than a year and simply couldn't compare to these natives.
"Aside from long-term practice, there's no other way. However, among the Monsters, there is a race that can plunder others' mana, even absorbing the residual mana from corpses."
Serie's words made Rhode's mind tighten.
"Plunder mana?" he asked with a frown. "Is this race numerous?"
If there were many of them, he couldn't imagine how to defeat the Demon Race.
After all, the Age of Gods was never short of war, and war meant death.
If he had such a talent, he could just hide in a battlefield, wait for both sides to finish fighting, and then absorb the mana from the corpses.
Rhode didn't dare imagine how powerful his mana level would become in the end—probably even surpassing Serie, who had lived from the Age of Gods into the modern era.
"Very few, but this race is now called the Demon Race." Serie shook her head.
Beings whose souls had been corrupted by the Abyss were collectively called Monsters, and those among them that developed high intelligence were called the Demon Race.
Compared to Monsters, the Demon Race was far more cunning. Unlike the Elf race, which was emotionally indifferent, the Demon Race was completely devoid of any emotion.
This was a very terrifying kind of creature.
Rhode knew this too and couldn't help but furrow his brow.
Able to plunder mana and possessing considerable intelligence—they would be a fearsome opponent.
So he voiced his concern, "This is really troublesome. If these Demon Race members plunder mana without restraint, even the gods might not be a match for them."
"That won't happen." Serie shook her head again. "The reason gods are powerful is because of the divine power within them. No amount of mana can contend with divine power. Moreover, plundered mana actually corrupts the host's soul."
After saying this, she gave Rhode a meaningful look. "So don't think about creating such magic." Her voice was extremely serious. "These Demon Race beings gained extraordinary intelligence through their plundering ability, but because of their endless plundering, they degenerate back into mindless Monsters."
Rhode nodded thoughtfully.
He naturally understood the implication of Serie's words.
His creation talent had great future potential. If he really researched it, creating a magic that could plunder mana wasn't impossible.
But as Serie said, plundered mana would corrupt a living being's soul.
"Then I'll just keep practicing slowly." He smiled, completely abandoning the idea of taking shortcuts.
"Mm. Your magical talent isn't bad. Given time, you will surely become a powerful mage." Serie rarely offered him some encouragement.
Rhode was an important figure in her own research into magic, and she didn't want him to go down the wrong path.
"In that case, please teach me a few more spells."
Rhode didn't stand on ceremony.
His relationship with Serie was one of mutual teaching.
She taught him the most common magic of the Elf race in this era, and he used his created magic to improve and modify it, then taught it back to Serie.
"Fine."
Serie didn't waste words either. She simply raised her hand and said, "Though it's said that teaching magic shouldn't be rushed, with your talent, there's no such concern."
She pointed at a stone not far away, but her target wasn't that object—it was the tree behind it.
"Among the Elf race, there is a tracking magic. Even after an attack has been released, you can change its direction mid-flight. Then, by attaching this effect to an offensive spell, you achieve this result."
Serie cast Arrow Rain, shooting toward the stone. The rain of arrows curved in midair and accurately struck the small tree behind it.
This was already considered an advanced magic among the Elf race's spells. Back then, even Serie had spent several years learning it before she could use it proficiently.
"It's a bit hard to understand."
Rhode stared at it, his head spinning. He could still manage to gather magic power and launch an attack for now, but how was he supposed to control an attack that had already been released?
It wasn't like he could just add a remote control device to it like a tracking missile, was it?
Come to think of it, was there any potential in developing technology in this world? Though that would make the whole vibe feel off.
"No rush. You can take your time."
Serie revealed a faint smile. It was only natural that this man couldn't learn or even comprehend it—after all, back then, she had spent over a year just to attach magic power to an already released attack.
Then came endless, repetitive practice.
Because once you grasped this principle, you could add tracking to many more spells in the future. In actual combat, it was an extremely powerful technique.
It was one of the Elf race's most core magics, and now she had taught it to Rhode without holding anything back.
She was looking forward to seeing how long it would take this man to learn it.
