Background / History

Founding and early legacy

Lingbao Sect was founded by Lingbao Chihun Xuanhuang Dao Lord, also called Chi Hun Dao Lord. He was the sect's first ascended Dao Lord and remains central among its ancestral effigies. Lingbao Chunyang Dao Lord and Lingbao Yulu Dao Lord are among the other ancestors enshrined by the sect. 105

The sect developed into six peak lineages: Linghuang, Linghui, Linglu, Lingyang, Lingming, and Lingwei. Linghuang was historically the strongest and most sought-after lineage, while Lingming ranked close behind it. 71

Before Li Qingyun's rise, the sect's ancestral inheritance had weakened. Linghuang had produced two patriarch Dao Lords—Chi Hun and Chunyang—while Linghui had produced only Miaoxuan, who vanished after independently reaching the Golden Core realm. 152 153

Decline and recovery

The sect initially maintained influence over about four commanderies, but was materially and politically overshadowed by Biyou Palace. Its higher-ups pushed temple construction in the Southern Border to spread ancestral divine might and secure incense offerings. 85 88

During Great You's unrest, hostile sects pressured Lingbao Sect into retreating to Shangyang Commandery and a small number of outposts. The sect avoided the crippling casualties suffered by Luoxia Sect and Fire God Gate, then later counterattacked with one Yang God, six Yin Gods, and dozens of Nascent Soul cultivators. 227 246

Li Qingyun's rapid advancement reversed the sect's fortunes. By the time he became its strongest pillar, Lingbao Sect had expanded to nine commanderies and emerged as the foremost beneficiary of Great You's dynastic upheaval. 262 270

Nation-suppressing era

After Biyou Palace voluntarily relinquished its former position, Emperor Xian of the Liu Dynasty formally recognized Lingbao Sect as Great You's nation-suppressing great sect. The sect subsequently converted much of You Capital's temple network into Lingbao Temples and installed Li Qingyun's effigy alongside its ancestral Dao Lords. 479 480

Li Qingyun later ordered external expansion into Fu and Zhu Kingdoms. Disciples selected for this work established temples, expanded the sect's incense base, and turned positions such as regional abbots and Grand Overseers into highly desired appointments. 478 485 513
