At age nine, Qian Renxue assumed the identity of Xue Qinghe. For more than a decade, she lived within the Heaven Dou Palace, shaping every action, expression, and word around the Crown Prince's predetermined role. She later describes the palace's vermilion walls and endless memorials as shackles, having grown up without anyone waiting to guide her home. 287

While acting as Xue Qinghe, she effectively managed Heaven Dou's state affairs as the emperor's health declined. Her dual life left her torn between the responsibilities imposed on her by Spirit Hall and her own desire to live openly as Qian Renxue. 95
