History

Early life and Demon Slaying Division service

Guan Wenzhong was born into a minor family. His natural Martial Bone and aptitude for the Seven Forms gave him an exceptional foundation, but his family could not support him beyond his early cultivation. After reaching Foundation Establishment, his pride and intolerance for injustice made him unpopular with Bailian County's prominent families, who repeatedly suppressed him. 97

The local powers assigned him the dangerous Bailian County homicide investigation because none of them wished to pursue a killer capable of rapidly murdering high-level cultivators. Guan instead captured the Yin Ghost Sect cultivator Cai Cheng Cai, extracted the sect's activities through interrogation, and led his subordinates overnight toward Black Ridge County. 97

He was notably protective of his men: he refused to force them into pursuing Lin Le, warned that Lin's illusion techniques could endanger them, and promised that the merits from destroying evil cultivators would not be monopolized by those above him. 97

Encounter with Lin Le

Guan first intervened in Lin Le's confrontation with Huai Zigu, temporarily saving the Yin Ghost Sect Master because arresting him alive was more useful than letting Lin kill him. He openly explained this to Lin and apologized for the interference, establishing an initially cautious but frank relationship. 98

When the Great Serpent emerged from the tomb, Guan joined Lin Le in attacking it with his Crescent Blade. Afterward, the two divided the cave's resources, and Guan deliberately kept his recognition of Lin Le secret rather than arrest him for the Demon Slaying Division. 99 101

Guan later supplied Lin with ghost-containing artifacts for purification. In return for Lin's services, he promised to obtain thirty strands of Cloudy Pure Qi through the Division's channels, refused payment, and insisted that a promise was sufficient. 103

Kuzhu City reform and death

After Lin Le killed Yan Xuandong, Guan agreed to help impersonate the wounded Commander and reform the Demon Slaying Division. He lured Wei Shanhe outside Kuzhu City, where Lin Le ambushed and killed him; Guan then assumed the position of acting Commander. 128 129

As acting Commander, Guan openly resisted Yan Xuandong's faction, moved against the local families' influence, and executed Baibao Hall's Bai Zhenghao under a charge of colluding with the Demon Race. 105 129 137

His connection to Lin was eventually exposed. Confronted by Chi Xinghan, Guan publicly recited atrocities committed by the Four Great Families against ordinary people, then shattered his own heart meridians rather than allow Chi to kill him on his terms. 140

Service as a Spirit General

After becoming a Dao soldier, Guan asked Lin Le to reconstruct the souls of his former subordinates Li Zheng and Li Qi so they could continue serving beside him. 142
