Ben sat before a messy desk.
On the physics textbook spread across the desktop lay a brightly colored spider. One look was enough to tell it was highly venomous.
—But it was already dead, its stiff legs curled up like a closed flower.
"The Mutant Spider that bit Spider-Man."
A few days ago, Ben had obtained it at Osborn.
Fifteen years ago, Ben had transmigrated into this world and become part of the Parker family—Ben Parker.
At the same time, he was also the cousin of the famous Spider-Man, Peter Parker. However, he was not Ben and May's son, but their adopted child.
When he was ten, Ben had accidentally obtained the Omnitrix during a spring outing, the device commonly known as the Little Broken Watch.
The original Little Broken Watch could connect to the genetic Code Stream of the artificial organic planet Primus, allowing its wearer to transform into more than a million intelligent alien species. Through this method, it allowed users to transcend the barriers between races.
Azmuth had invented it in the hope that the Omnitrix could become a Noah's Ark capable of saving endangered species throughout the universe.
Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, Ben's watch seemed to have lost its connection to Primus. Its internal system had remained completely blank to this day, unable to do anything.
If this had merely been an ordinary world, that would have been one thing. But this was one of Marvel's countless universes.
By now, Tony Stark had officially revealed his identity to the world, and the age of Super Heroes had begun.
Ben had little interest in becoming a Super Hero, but he lived in the dangerous place that was New York City. Naturally, he needed some means of protecting himself. That was why he had set his sights on the Mutant Spider.
He was not trying to steal his cousin Peter's identity as Spider-Man or his Superpowers. He only hoped that after the spider bit Peter, it might bite him as well and grant him power too.
However, the thing had died immediately after biting Peter, as though its entire purpose in life had been to give Spider-Man's abilities to Peter Parker.
"Maybe this is the power of the Spider Totem, as unshakable as a web of fate."
Ben thought.
Unfortunately, he neither possessed the special genes compatible with the Mutant Spider nor had he been chosen by the Spider Totem.
Even the Little Broken Watch seemed to have no reaction because spiders were not intelligent lifeforms. He had also tried activating it with Peter's hair, but that had not worked either.
The watch would not extract the genes of non-sapient creatures, nor could it transform its wearer into someone of the same species.
Helplessly, Ben pinched one of its legs and raised the hideous little thing before his eyes.
"Looks like I can only take a desperate gamble."
That was right. He now had a crazy idea—eat the corpse of the Mutant Spider!
It was a dangerous decision!
He remembered a Spider-Man comic where someone had eaten a spider's corpse and turned into a monster that was nothing but skin on the outside, with spiders filling the inside!
But he had no other choice.
"If I were just an ordinary citizen living in New York City, maybe I wouldn't take the risk. But I just had to be Spider-Man's cousin." Looking at the dead spider's corpse, Ben sighed helplessly.
As everyone knew, Spider-Man always had enemies.
Choosing to become Spider-Man meant being doomed to keep losing people. Those close to him never met a good end, just like Uncle Ben and Gwen.
Ben did not want to become one of the people "lost," nor could he stand by and watch Uncle Ben fall into danger—now that Peter had gained spider abilities, the moment that would set him on the path to becoming Spider-Man was fast approaching!
Ben needed power to stop all of this from happening!
Of course, he was not trying to get himself killed, stubbornly pressing on despite knowing he would become a monster.
"The Omnitrix can repair genes, and protection for its holder should be written into its programming. This method should be able to force it to activate."
In the cartoon, Benny had used the Little Broken Watch to cure Earthlings contaminated and assimilated by the genes of mutant insects, and had also resolved the genetic defects of Highbreed throughout the universe.
If the plan went smoothly, then he would not become a Spider Monster.
Ben lowered his head to look at the watch on his wrist and decided to risk it all.
He drew in a deep breath, then closed his eyes and stuffed the Mutant Spider's corpse into his mouth!
Its eight sharp, curled legs stabbed into every corner of Ben's mouth like porcupine quills. It seemed to come alive again at once, crawling everywhere inside his mouth, slicing open the walls of his mouth as it tried to escape.
"Mm—"
Ben hurriedly covered his mouth to stop himself from vomiting it out in disgust.
Then Ben bit down on it—he could feel the spider's corpse bursting with juices in his mouth, and a bitter flavor immediately spread across his taste buds.
"Disgusting..."
Ben nearly suffocated, not only from the disgust and bitterness, but more importantly because the Mutant Spider was venomous. His tongue was being corroded by the fluid, and the pain nearly made him spit the whole thing out.
But that would render everything he had done pointless.
Not only did he not spit it out, he gritted his teeth and swallowed it whole.
It was like swallowing a huge cup of molten iron mixed with spiked sea urchin shells. The spider's body writhed down his esophagus—
Then came excruciating pain!
"Ah!"
Ben suddenly curled up, clutching his stomach as he convulsed.
The watch showed no response, but the mutation had begun!
It felt as if his internal organs were being sliced apart by spider spears. Countless spiders seemed to be packed into his tiny stomach, tearing at Ben's flesh with saw-like fangs!
The pain was nearly unbearable, like trying to tear off a hangnail only to rip away an entire bloody sheet of skin!
Now, agony spread through his entire body!
Thud!
He and his chair crashed to the floor together. The loud noise startled May, who was washing dishes downstairs.
"They're invading my brain!"
Ben clenched his teeth tightly. His head was splitting apart, as though hundreds of spiders had crowded into his brain. Countless jointed limbs crawled through the dark confines of his fragile mind. Helpless, he could only painfully seize his own hair and slam his head heavily against the floor.
He barely opened a slit of an eye. Through it, he could see that both his eyes were bloodshot, the veins in his eyeballs dense as spiderwebs!
Ben looked desperately at the watch on his wrist. Even now, it remained completely unresponsive.
He had lost the gamble.
He could feel his senses becoming sharper. His vision was clearer, and even his field of view had widened—of course it had, because he now had countless spider-like eyes!
Click—
Footsteps sounded on the old stairs outside the door.
Ben tensed.
Knock, knock, knock—
Someone knocked on the door.
"Benny, are you all right?" Aunt May's worried voice came from outside.
Ben's body trembled violently. The corners of his mouth split open, and his teeth began protruding outward, turning into horrifying fangs!
The poor man who had become a monster in the comic had devoured his mother's organs alive, leaving behind only her skin... Now, Ben's bloodthirsty desire was running wild!
He wanted to eat. He wanted to feed!
Beneath his skin, thousands upon thousands of mouths waited for him to fill them!
"Run, May..."
Ben wanted to warn Aunt May to run, but when he opened his mouth, he discovered that his voice was evil and hoarse, utterly inhuman. Before he could even grieve over it, four slender spider spears forced apart his eyeballs and drilled out through his eyelids!
"What did you say?" Aunt May asked worriedly. "Your voice sounds like you have a cold."
Ben could no longer answer. He gripped his arms tightly, doing everything he could to suppress the bloody urge.
How could he hurt Aunt May?
Six blood-red eyes tearing out from beneath his skin glanced toward the shut window—he knew he could not stay here any longer. He had to leave!
But before he could even take half a step, he collapsed to the floor in pain.
Aunt May heard a muffled crash from inside and immediately grew nervous. "Benny, are you okay?"
She grabbed the doorknob.
Ben heard a creak, and then the door opened. A beam of light pierced inside—
"No!"
His heart roared in despair—but at that very instant, the watch on his wrist flashed as well!
[Genetic contamination detected in the holder. Omnitrix forcefully activating.]
