Background / History

Peter was sent to Uncle Ben and Aunt May by his parents, Richard and Mary Parker, shortly after Ben Parker had been adopted by them. Unlike Ben, Peter is their blood relative; Richard and Mary were later revealed to have been CIA agents killed in a plane crash possibly arranged by Hydra. 3 130 140

After gaining spider-like abilities, Peter became determined to investigate their origin through Osborn and Curt Connors, who had worked with his father. His fixation on his parents' past worried Uncle Ben and Aunt May. 3

Peter initially viewed heroism as a path to recognition and admiration. Ben Parker warned him that public acclaim would belong to Spider-Man rather than Peter Parker, and that exposing his identity would endanger those close to him. Peter accepted the need for secrecy while maintaining that his powers carried an obligation to help people. 13 14

Ben designed Peter's first Spider-Man battle suit, while Peter chose its red-and-blue color scheme and worked on creating a durable, biodegradable spider-silk material for his web-shooters. 14 15

Peter's early patrols included saving civilians from the Lizard Monster on Williamsburg Bridge, earning him public support despite media hostility. He later expanded his work from Queens into Hell's Kitchen, where an initial clash with Daredevil developed into cooperation against crime. 23 57 109

Nick Fury eventually exposed Peter's identity to select S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel and informed him of Hydra's role in his parents' deaths. Peter initially declined Fury's Avengers offer, preferring the local, “insignificant” work of a neighborhood hero and his commitment to the Galactic Plumbers. He later joined the Avengers alongside Ben to oppose Hydra. 130 140 141 143

Appearance

As Spider-Man, Peter generally wears a red-and-blue battle suit with web-shooters and a full mask. His equipment was repeatedly upgraded by Ben and Primus Technology. 15 53

  • Red-and-blue Spider-Man suit selected from Ben's designs. 15
  • Underarm gliding wings for high-altitude mobility and emergencies when web fluid is unavailable. 53
  • Later received the Iron Spider Suit Mark 1, deployed from a metal case. 148
  • Has used a black Venom-covered appearance while bonded with the symbiote. 196 269

Personality

Peter is compassionate, idealistic, and highly protective of civilians. He repeatedly prioritizes rescue work over personal safety, from saving people during the Stark Expo attack to intervening against trafficking in Hell's Kitchen. 57 125

His identity as Spider-Man is deeply important to his self-worth. Venom exploits Peter's fear that, without his heroic identity, he is merely an overlooked Peter Parker; nevertheless, Peter refuses Venom's urges to harm or eat people. 266 268

Though sometimes naive and eager for recognition, Peter grows more discerning about large organizations and rejects the idea that heroism must involve world-changing power. Captain America respects his commitment to small but meaningful acts of help. 14 141

Peter is also scientifically gifted. Curt Connors considers his ability to understand complex formulas extraordinary, while Peter uses physics and leverage to briefly outmaneuver Ronan. 110 223

Abilities & Skills

Spider Physiology

Peter acquired spider-like powers through mutation. His abilities strengthened gradually rather than appearing at their peak immediately. 3 12

  • Enhanced strength, agility, endurance, and reflexes.
  • Can restrain or evade trained opponents while deliberately avoiding lethal force. 57
  • Possesses a Spider-Sense that warns him of danger. 57
  • His strength and reflexes allowed him to defeat the Four Knights of Wendagore without using his watch. 546
  • His original abilities were later restored with a Gene Replenishment Potion. 299

Web-Shooting and Spider Silk

Peter developed and uses web-shooters as his primary nonlethal combat tool. 15 57

  • Uses webbing for swinging, restraint, traversal, and environmental combat.
  • Designed biodegradable spider silk to prevent permanent buildup across New York. 15
  • His silk can cocoon powerful targets, though War Lord escaped it with a sonic roar. 192
  • Webbing is vulnerable to sufficiently intense heat. 550

Scientific Aptitude

Peter has exceptional intelligence, particularly in scientific analysis and applied physics. 110 223

  • Helped develop new spider-silk material for his web-shooters. 15
  • Understands advanced formulas derived from Richard Parker's research. 110
  • Used physics and leverage to temporarily incapacitate Ronan despite the Power Stone's gravity effects. 223
  • Worked at Primus Technology’s laboratory and sought an antidote to the Green Goblin modification serum. 53 114

Venom Symbiote

During the Chitauri conflict, Venom took control of Peter's body to fight Chitauri forces. Peter subsequently continued wearing the symbiote and entered a mutually dependent, but increasingly dangerous, partnership with it. 192 196 208

  • Allows Peter to use his strength more fully and gives him greater confidence. 196
  • Gradually replicates Peter's genes and feeds the copied power back to him. 208
  • Preserved Peter from permanent disability after the Power Stone irreversibly damaged his right arm. 223
  • Influences Peter toward greater aggression and destructive behavior. 208 269
  • Peter consistently rejects Venom's violent impulses, including its desire to eat people. 208 266
  • Later worked alongside Flash Thompson as Agent Venom. 349

Bio-Electricity and Invisibility

The Gene Replenishment Potion included genes derived from Black Spider, granting Peter additional powers. 299

  • Can discharge electricity.
  • Can absorb electricity.
  • Can turn invisible using bio-electricity. 299 553

Omnitrix Transformations

Peter later used a watch containing alien genetic transformations after taking Rampage Ben's Omnitrix. His use of the device was unstable, and the High Evolutionary eventually took Peter's Omnitrix. 546 547 553 557

  • Humungousaur — grew beyond three meters tall and gained strength measured in hundreds of tons; still lost in direct combat to the High Evolutionary. 546
  • Big Chill — used phasing to escape the High Evolutionary. 546
  • Gravattack — manipulated gravity; its power was inferior to Ben’s Celestialsapien-enhanced version. 572
  • Way Big — identified as one of the watch’s most powerful forms, but Peter hesitated to use it because of the likely collateral damage. 573
  • Limitations — transformations could be unstable, short-lived, and potentially harmful to Peter. 547

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Spider-Man Battle SuitBen-designed red-and-blue protective suit. 15
  • Web-shooters — wrist-mounted devices firing Peter’s spider silk. 15 57
  • Gliding wings — suit-mounted web-like wings for aerial maneuverability. 53
  • Iron Spider Suit Mark 1 — armor deployed from a portable case. 148
  • Glider — compact device that unfolds from a small square and allows aerial escape without webbing. 550
  • Electromagnetic pulse weapon — used in the Rebel Army’s operation against Ram Knight. 553
  • Omnitrix / Copy Watch — alien-transformation device; captured by the High Evolutionary. 546 557

Relationships

  • Ben Parker — Adoptive cousin, mentor, equipment provider, and closest partner; Ben supports Peter’s heroism while insisting that he protect his identity and remember his life beyond Spider-Man. 14 53 141
  • Uncle Ben — Guardian and moral influence; taught Peter that great power brings great responsibility. 13
  • Aunt May — Guardian who fears for Peter’s safety but ultimately accepts and supports his identity as Spider-Man. 210
  • Richard and Mary Parker — Deceased parents; their research into interspecies genetics and their Hydra-linked deaths drive Peter’s search for answers. 130 140
  • Harry Osborn — Best friend; later becomes hostile when altered memories convince him Peter betrayed him, though Peter continues trying to reach him. 349 557
  • Matt Murdock / Daredevil — Began as a misunderstanding in Hell’s Kitchen; became Peter’s crime-fighting ally. 57 109
  • Venom — Symbiote partner that empowers Peter but pressures him toward violence; Peter remains its moral restraint. 196 208 269
  • Felicia Hardy / Black Cat — Ally who fought beside Peter against Chitauri and later rescued him from Ultron Robots. 201 268
  • Steve Rogers / Captain America — Respects Peter’s focus on helping ordinary people; later serves with him on the Thunderbolts. 141 299
