Some people claimed they had no intention of becoming Super Heroes, yet secretly came up with a hero name and even designed an entire set of uniforms.
Peter looked at Ben with a teasing glint in his eyes and joked,
"Didn't you say you weren't planning to become Spider-Man?"
"I'm not. I just don't want the suit you make to be so ugly that I embarrass myself wearing it outside," Ben said.
The Spider-Man of this universe seemed like a blend of the three movie universes. Ben had no idea which version of the suit Peter would eventually come up with. If it was something like Holland's baby pajamas, that would be downright humiliating.
"Fine, I'll reluctantly believe you, but..." Peter flipped open the draft paper and quickly discovered that there was more than one design. Leaving aside the various color swaps, there were even suits with a mechanical, cyberpunk style similar to Iron Man's armor. Peter's heart began to stir.
"Isn't this way too many?"
"Just tell me, do you want one or not?"
"Yes! Of course I do!"
In the end, Peter chose a set from the most numerous red-and-blue designs. He did want Iron Spider-Man's armor or the Spider-Knight suit, but the two of them simply did not have the technical ability for that yet. They could only set those aside as future plans for now.
"Using Silk really is a good idea, but the materials available right now simply can't make it happen," Peter said thoughtfully.
Toby Version's Spider-Man had special Silk-producing organs in his wrists, while Garfield Version's Spider-Man got his Silk from Osborn Enterprise. He had only made a Web Shooter himself.
But Osborn Enterprise did not seem to be involved in the Silk industry at the moment. That meant Peter and Ben would have to create an entirely new Silk material, one with tensile strength that at least met their expectations.
If Ben could transform into Spider Monkey right now, things would be much easier. He could directly study Spider Monkey's Silk structure.
But for now, Peter could only rely on his own efforts.
"I think I might have an idea—" A flash of inspiration struck Peter's mind.
"Good luck. Also, I suggest adding something to the Silk that lets it biodegrade naturally. Otherwise, before long, all of New York City might turn into a spider nest."
He patted Peter on the shoulder, then tossed the deep-in-thought Peter out of his room.
After that, he sat back down in front of the computer and began thinking about other matters.
Just as he had said before, once he had Superpowers, he had to put them to use. Peter planned to become New York's hero. Ben did not plan to save the world, but he could still become this family's hero.
"Make more money, then give Uncle Ben and Aunt May a better life."
The thought that had surfaced before lingered like a ghost. He would establish a company of his own, call it Primus Technology, and make it an industry leader!
If nothing else, it had to reach at least Osborn's scale.
"But both startup capital and projects are problems. I don't have anything impressive in my hands right now," Ben thought.
The only high-tech items he had were Iron Man's suit and the Omnitrix. The suit went without saying; Stark Industries held patents on much of its technology. Of course, it was not impossible to develop something based on it. He could exploit legal loopholes like Hammer Industries did. Most importantly, he could cooperate with the United States government, and naturally someone would endorse him.
But Ben had no intention of supplying them with weapons.
The other object he could research was naturally the Little Broken Watch.
As Level 20 technology, the Little Broken Watch's abilities went far beyond transformation. Aside from that most basic function, it contained extraordinarily advanced communications technology, capable of instant communication across millions of light-years, instantaneous teleportation, and advanced Nanotechnology.
Every time the Little Broken Watch transformed its holder, it used Nanotechnology to convert the holder's clothes into an Alien Hero's outfit.
That was why the Alien Hero's clothing changed from black and white to green later in the first season.
"Nanotechnology is a pretty good direction, but the technological leap is too great. It'll be hard to achieve in the short term," Ben thought. "And the funding such a project would consume is far beyond what I can afford."
Startup capital was always the biggest problem.
Developing technology was not something you could fund by robbing a few street thugs. Without enormous financial backing, most scientists could accomplish nothing. That was why someone as capable as Doctor Octopus still had to rob banks.
Ben thought about it. Since robbing street thugs would not work, robbing the criminal emperors of the underground world might be a good option.
Like Kingpin, or The Hand...
But that would also put him at greater risk of exposure.
If it was only Spider-Man's abilities, that would be manageable. Ben was not too worried about that identity being discovered. In fact, from the moment Peter decided to become Spider-Man, it was inevitable that S.H.I.E.L.D. would learn their identities.
What Ben wanted S.H.I.E.L.D. to see was the image of someone "with Superpowers but no intention of becoming a Super Hero like his cousin." He was using his spider abilities as bait to conceal the Little Broken Watch.
The Omnitrix was simply too dangerous. Once it was completely exposed, whether it was S.H.I.E.L.D. or the snake S.H.I.E.L.D., they would probably do everything possible to obtain it.
Ben was not afraid of them, but he did not want to provoke troubles that buzzed around like flies.
And if he did that, the source of his funds would also become a problem. Once he produced any results, those people above might use that as an excuse to seize his inventions.
"Then there's only one other way." He picked up his phone and found a number.
Since he had no money himself, he could find someone else to invest. As it happened, he knew a guy who was rich and foolish.
Though it was late at night, the call connected quickly.
"Hello, Harry Potter."
"Don't call me Harry Potter!" Harry on the other end immediately lost it the moment he picked up, snapping at Ben. It took him quite a while to calm down before he asked, "You wouldn't call me for no reason. So, how has Peter been lately?"
The first thing he asked about was Peter, and he still claimed the two of them were not true love?
"He's doing great. I'd say he's never been better than he is now."
Peter was like a fresh graduate who had immediately received an offer from a major corporation, thrilled to have a job without realizing he was about to be molded into a corporate drone.
"And you?" Harry asked. "I don't believe you called just to catch up, especially at this hour."
In truth, Harry had already imagined that Ben was heartbroken after a breakup and had called someone to pour his heart out at this hour.
He was already waiting to hear the joke while taking the opportunity to comfort his old friend.
Yet Ben's words at that moment pierced Harry's heart like a sword.
"Harry, I remember you really want Uncle Norman to see you in a new light, right?"
"I have a plan!"
