She Was Felicia Hardy, and I Was Just Mary Jane
Benny could barely recognize him as Doctor Connors.
Or rather, barely recognize him as a Lizard Man.
Connors looked noticeably different from the monster that had appeared on the Williamsburg Bridge a few days ago. Back then, Connors had been ugly and ferocious too, but his features had been more lizard-like, and his face had been rounder.
But now, his cheeks jutted out, his mouth had become a long, narrow snout, and the skin on his body had taken on a grayer green hue. His skin and scales had hardened into something like crocodile-hide armor, and his body had grown an entire size larger.
Rather than a Lizard Man, Connors had become the even more terrifying Dinosaur Man!
Just looking at him reminded Benny of the Indoraptor, the hybrid with Tyrannosaurus Rex and Velociraptor genes from the Jurassic series.
"You—"
Connors flung the toilet off his head and crawled completely out of the ground.
He stood at least three meters tall, comparable to Humungousaur before growing larger. In the cramped restroom, he could only move while hunched over.
The moment Connors saw Benny, his enormous body pressed toward him. A dark shadow instantly swallowed Benny up, and his voice was like muffled thunder. "You are not Peter Parker!"
The moment he opened his mouth, a foul gust hit Benny in the face and nearly blew his hair out of place.
"Your breath is pretty strong, buddy." Benny pinched his nose and leaned back.
At the same time, he frowned.
Connors had undergone such a strange change. Without even thinking about it, Benny knew whose work it was.
He just had not expected Doctor Animo to find Connors so quickly and mutate his genes. If that was the case, the serum antidote he had made earlier probably would not be very effective anymore.
Connors's eyes were bigger than light bulbs. When he glared at Benny, they almost reflected half of Benny's face.
He was somewhat puzzled as to why the student before him was not afraid, but he did not pay it much attention.
From beginning to end, he had only one target—
"Where is Peter Parker?"
"I don't know. I'm not close with him. I don't know him at all." Benny immediately denied it three times in a row.
"I suggest you go look outside."
Connors hardly doubted him at all.
Other than Peter, he did not want to kill anyone right now. In his eyes, everyone in New York would soon become his kind. There was no need to kill them. He only needed to kill the Spider-Man who had tried to stop him!
After roughly shoving Benny out of the way, Connors headed straight out into the school corridor.
When he passed Benny, it was like a massive truck roaring by, stirring up a gust of wind.
His cold, scale-covered tail swung past, snapping a metal water pipe without any awareness of it!
Benny watched his retreating figure. Sharp bony plates had grown along Connors's back, and his clothes had long since been torn apart, leaving only a few scraps hanging from his body.
Every step he took seemed to make the ground tremble.
The next moment, Benny heard the mixed screams of hundreds of people coming from the corridor.
Avoiding Connors's line of sight, Benny was just about to transform when he sensed Peter approaching.
So Benny lowered his watch and followed Connors out of the restroom. By then, the students in the corridor had already fled. Peter, who had not had time to change into his suit, kept dodging in the narrow hallway, trying to cover Connors's eyes with Silk.
But Silk, which possessed tremendous tensile strength, seemed incredibly fragile before Connors now.
"What happened to him?"
Peter tossed aside his backpack, slid under Connors's claw strike, and circled behind him, where he happened to run into Benny coming out of the restroom.
"No idea. He crawled out of a toilet. I think he'd make a great plumber. What do you think?" Benny asked.
"Did the toilet get unclogged?" Peter knew it was not the time, but he still followed Benny's lead and asked.
"It did." Benny recalled the enormous hole nearly two meters across and nodded with complete certainty.
Peter stared at the row of lockers Connors's claws had sliced apart like tofu and muttered, "I thought so..."
"Peter Parker!"
Connors angrily and laboriously turned around in the corridor. The space was far too narrow for him.
Fortunately, that problem was easy to solve.
Boom!!
With a hard swing of his tail, he smashed straight through a wall!
Peter sucked in a breath, his tone softening as he pleaded, "Please go get the serum quickly, okay?"
"Give me a few minutes."
Benny nodded.
Because he knew Connors would come to the school, Benny had kept the antidote with him all along. It was just in the classroom.
The only problem was that he was not sure whether the antidote would still work on Connors in his current state.
Benny had reverse-engineered the serum antidote using the half-life formula Peter's father had left behind, but Connors had already mutated. The genes inside his body had probably changed. Even if the serum had some effect, it might not be very noticeable.
I still need to find Animo! Benny thought.
"I think he only needs ten seconds to tear me apart..." Peter said weakly.
But Benny could no longer hear him.
He had already run into another corridor and reached the inner side of the Teaching Building. Many students were still packed together there, their faces full of terror as they tried to escape.
Only a short time had passed since Connors suddenly appeared in the corridor. Not every student had seen him and immediately run away.
"Don't panic! Escape through the corridor on the other side!"
Benny saw several teachers raising their arms high to maintain order.
"Don't push! Watch out for trampling!"
Benny moved against the flow of people toward the classroom. The crowded tide surged at him, but he remained unmoved like a boulder.
Even without transforming, Benny possessed tremendous strength. The strength in one of his arms was now close to ten tons, and it was still growing!
He stretched out both hands and parted the crowd.
But he was not the only one moving against the flow.
Amid the crowd.
Mary Jane struggled to push through the people. She felt like a sardine trapped in a can, barely able to breathe.
She soon spotted Felicia.
Like Mary Jane, Felicia had not left with the crowd. But she was a little weaker than Mary Jane, and several times she nearly got knocked to the ground by the packed students.
Mary Jane hurriedly squeezed toward her.
"Hardy!" She grabbed Felicia's arm, and only then did Felicia feel as though she had caught a lifeline, letting out a breath of relief.
"You're Mary Jane Watson?"
"Have you seen Benny?" Mary Jane did not care about how Felicia addressed her. They were not that familiar with each other to begin with.
But the moment she spoke, Felicia froze.
"You're looking for Benny too?"
Too?
Mary Jane quickly realized something.
She looked at Felicia, who radiated the air of a young lady, and felt like an ugly duckling. She usually tried her best not to care about such things, but at that moment, insecurity still spread through her heart.
She was Felicia Hardy, while she was just Mary Jane.
She thought.
