"This thing looks so complicated."
Peter scratched his head. The Little Broken Watch looked simple in design, but in reality, much of the technology inside was far beyond human understanding.
"You don't need to worry about that. Just do as I say."
Ben had transformed into Grey Matter. A monitor sat in front of him, displaying an image of his own back.
He pinched his chin.
"First, remove the wireless receiver."
"Alright, but what's a wireless receiver?" Peter asked.
"It's the detachable ring on the outside of the watch," Ben explained. "Be careful. Although the wireless receiver's main purpose is to protect the watch's core, it might also contain some genetic information."
"Alright, I'm wearing gloves." Peter nodded.
He had to control his strength even more carefully.
After removing the wireless receiver, the core of the Little Broken Watch was fully exposed before Peter's eyes. He could not make heads or tails of it. Other than thinking it looked cool, he had no other thoughts.
Meanwhile, Ben lowered his head and sank into thought.
Level 20 technology—forget replicating it, even understanding it would not be easy.
At the same time, at Stark Tower.
Everyone saw Tony Stark battling a gigantic Monster Bird in the sky.
The citizens of New York clearly had not yet developed the instinctive response to supervillain attacks. Otherwise, they would not have foolishly looked up instead of fleeing, or even applauded Iron Man.
Little did they know that Tony was already sick to death of that Monster Bird.
The monsters modified by Doctor Animo were not simply enlarged versions of ordinary creatures. Their bodily structures had long since changed completely. Otherwise, those mutated animals would not have been qualified to contend with Alien Heroes.
And now, Animo had the Lizard Serum as a template, greatly enhancing the effects of the Mutation Ray.
All of that made the creature difficult for Tony to handle.
Moreover, it moved incredibly fast through the air. Ammunition that lacked sufficient power did nothing to it, while overly powerful weapons could cause collateral damage when it used New York's high-rises as shields, leaving Tony wary.
He did not care how many buildings got damaged. The problem was that plenty of ordinary people were still inside them.
Not only that, he had also spotted the gigantic bullfrog wreaking havoc inside Stark Industries.
"Jarvis, evacuate every employee from the tower."
Tony gave orders as he flew.
"What about Pepper?"
"Miss Potts is currently safe, sir. Mr. Coulson from the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division is protecting her."
"Dammit, when are they going to change that tongue-twisting name?" Tony mocked, though he relaxed afterward.
Even in his eyes, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were not much use in a fight, but at times like this, helping with the evacuation was making the best use of them.
"Then you're wrong, Tony Stark!"
"Is that you?"
Tony's eyelid twitched as he remembered the Black man who had hacked into his home last time, blending into the darkness.
"Jarvis, kick him out!"
"Don't even think about it!" Nick Fury hurriedly said.
He had gone to great lengths to hack into Tony's communications network, all so he could put on a big show in front of Tony.
He wanted this arrogant bastard who looked down on everyone to rein himself in a little, making it easier to recruit him into the Avengers later.
"My agents will deal with the monster inside Stark Tower. You can handle that Monster Bird."
After saying that, Nick Fury did not forget to add mockingly, "Don't tell me the famous Tony Stark can't even handle one bird?"
Then, before Tony could reply, Fury hurriedly cut off the communication.
If he did not, Jarvis would kick him out.
At S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters.
Fury opened the comms. "Agent Barton, Agent Romanoff, you heard him too. Deal with that monster. Don't make me lose face."
The pressure was now on Natasha and Hawkeye.
Fortunately, S.H.I.E.L.D. was not sending just the two of them. In fact, an entire well-trained team of agents had already begun moving.
They were fully armed, carrying the most powerful handheld weapons available.
And an Old Ice Pop who had only recently been thawed out had also joined the operation.
"Captain, are you alright?"
Fury asked with concern.
On the helicopter.
Steve Rogers wore an outfit that looked like something from a theater performance. Hearing Fury's words, he fell silent for several seconds before saying,
"I just didn't realize the world had changed so much."
"To be fair, fighting a gigantic bullfrog isn't exactly an everyday occurrence either." After thinking about it, Fury still offered an explanation, lest this antique who had been disconnected from society for decades misunderstand something.
But in truth, Fury himself was the one who had misunderstood.
More than half a century ago, Steve had already fought a red skull-headed villain. One more bullfrog did not seem like much of a big deal.
What truly made him feel that the world had changed was waking up to find a fucking Black man sitting over his head and barking orders at him.
What the hell!
This was practically Heavenly Reversal!
Who would have dared imagine this in the old days?
But as a captain with honey on his lips, he could only remain polite.
"Captain, we'll reach Stark Tower in five minutes. Do you have a battle plan?"
"Yes."
Captain America unfastened his seatbelt, walked to the aircraft door, and opened it.
In an instant, the massive pressure difference whipped up a fierce wind that threatened to suck everything out of the helicopter!
Steve stood before the open hatch without budging.
"What's the plan?"
"Attack!"
With that, Steve plunged straight toward the rooftop of Stark Tower!
He did not even wear a parachute. With only a shield protecting his body, he went straight down. The other agents' scalps went numb just watching him.
Worthy of Captain America!
Jumping from dozens of meters up—even with the Super Soldier Serum to cushion the blow, his balls would probably go numb from the impact, right?
Fortunately, S.H.I.E.L.D. still had people capable of making an actual plan.
"Agent Barton, you provide cover. Everyone else, enter the tower and eliminate the monster!"
Hawkeye immediately nodded upon hearing that.
As a long-range fighter, he was already used to providing cover.
After the helicopter landed, the agents immediately swarmed inside. Coulson had already evacuated every employee from the tower.
Pepper looked panicked and shaken as she hurriedly said, "Coulson, my secretary is missing. She might still be inside the building."
"Don't worry, Miss Potts. Agent Romanoff is one of our agents. She'll deal with the monster." Coulson gave a reassuring smile, his face full of pride.
But Natasha wished he would not be so proud.
Because she was really about to be unable to hold on any longer.
By then, everyone else in the tower had evacuated. The giant bullfrog had been chasing her as food for over ten minutes.
The space inside the tower was indeed narrow for the creature, but its tremendous destructive power allowed it to ignore any obstacle.
She had emptied every magazine she had, yet she had not even scratched the bullfrog monster's skin.
Now she was out of ammunition, and the bullfrog had driven her into a dead end.
Seeing that tongue, which stretched over ten meters when it shot out and was far thicker than her head, Natasha's face turned a little pale.
If this were certain movies, there was no need to think about what would happen next.
But...
It wouldn't fit!
There was no way it could fit, no matter how she thought about it!
Natasha thought in despair.
Fortunately, after holding out for so long, her reinforcements had finally arrived!
Steve made a spectacular landing and flung the shield in his hand, smashing it heavily into the bullfrog's eye.
"Captain!"
Natasha let out a breath as though she had survived a disaster.
In truth, Steve's combat power was not particularly overwhelming, especially when his opponent was a ferocious monster that could not be defeated through skill. That made his shortcomings all the more apparent.
Yet for some reason, whenever he appeared, he always gave people the feeling that now everything will be fine.
"Leave it to me!"
Steve raised his arm high. The shield ricocheted around the tower before returning to his hand.
Now, the bullfrog noticed him as well.
It turned around, staring fiercely at Steve.
Captain America tapped his shield.
"Come on. I can do this all day!"
The bullfrog monster could not understand human speech, but it clearly sensed that the food before it was provoking it.
Report!
Not only did the enemy refuse to surrender, it even dared to fight back!
How could it tolerate that?
It immediately swung its enormous tongue, viciously smashing it toward Steve!
Before the tongue even arrived, a powerful blast of air slammed into Captain America's face!
But Steve was fearless!
He raised his indestructible shield!
BOOM!!!
A deafening crash rang out!
Natasha hurriedly looked over, only to see the bullfrog's tongue split the tower open like a giant axe!
And Captain America, who had just raised his shield, had already fallen into the crack in the building and vanished from sight...
Natasha: ...
Captain America: I got up, got one-shot, what else is there to say?
From now on, I'll post two chapters at once. The schedule will be fixed at six in the evening.
