Background / History

A modern office worker transmigrated into Tang San’s six-year-old body in Holy Spirit Village. Shortly afterward, he awakened the Slacking Off to Get Stronger System, which grants Slacking Value for avoiding intense training, unnecessary combat, and troublesome events; the value can be redeemed for rewards including Soul Power increases, Soul Ring age increases, and Soul Skill proficiency. Excessive cultivation or provoking powerful enemies can instead cause deductions and overwork penalties. 1

Rather than follow Tang Hao’s blacksmithing routine, Tang San repeatedly refused forge work and other labor to build Slacking Value. He nevertheless helped Tang Hao through a health episode, revealing that his self-serving approach does not erase his concern for his father. 1 2

At his Martial Soul awakening, Tang San manifested Blue Silver Grass while deliberately suppressing both his Soul Power and a concealed Clear Sky Hammer. Su Yuntao consequently judged him to possess only faint Soul Power. Tang Hao noticed the deception but allowed Tang San to keep his secret, cautioning him not to endanger himself. 4

Tang San departed Holy Spirit Village for Nuoding Academy under Old Jack and A Li’s care, using the journey’s slow pace and rest periods to gain Slacking Value. At Nuoding, he met Yu Xiaogang, concealed his actual strength during repeated tests, and received theory and practical guidance in plant Martial Soul use. 6 7 9 19

After graduating from Nuoding, Tang San entered Shrek Academy with Xiao Wu. He became part of the Shrek Seven Devils, fought in Spirit Combats at Suo Tuo City, traveled to Heaven Dou City, and increasingly served as the team’s control specialist and tactical coordinator. 30 41 44 58

Personality

Tang San prioritizes comfort, rest, and efficient resource use over conventional hard work. He treats “slacking” as a deliberate cultivation strategy: arriving late, underperforming just enough to avoid suspicion, declining unnecessary fights, and inventing plausible explanations for conserving Soul Power. 10 16 26 39

His apparent laziness conceals patience, tactical awareness, and strong self-control. He consistently downplays his abilities to avoid attention, stronger opponents, and additional training, while carefully maintaining a performance level that teachers will accept. 4 16 22 42

Despite his preference for an easy life, he is protective of people he values. He assists Tang Hao when his father is unwell, coordinates around his teammates’ limits, and spends all available emergency Soul Power to protect Ma Hongjun in battle. 2 41 44

Abilities & Skills

Slacking Off to Get Stronger System

A system visible only to Tang San that converts deliberate avoidance of exertion and trouble into Slacking Value. 1 2

  • Rewards him for reducing high-intensity training, declining unnecessary combat, resting, and avoiding troublesome events. 1 7 10
  • Slacking Value can be exchanged for Soul Power improvements, Soul Ring age increases, Soul Skill proficiency enhancements, Blue Silver Grass toughness, or temporary stamina recovery. 1 2
  • Penalizes excessive “involution,” including staying up late to cultivate or provoking strong enemies. 1
  • Tang San uses the system’s gains while concealing his true power from teachers and peers. 4 9 16

Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul

Tang San’s manifested Martial Soul is Blue Silver Grass, publicly considered a weak or “useless” plant Martial Soul. He improves and applies it through precise, low-consumption control. 1 4 20

  • Entangle — binds opponents, blocks movement, and controls battlefield space. 36 42 44
  • Parasite — can be linked with Entangle, though simultaneous activation demands greater precision. 36
  • Perception — senses objects and trajectories through the grass, supporting evasion and target prediction. 19 20 22
  • Battlefield division — separates enemies, disrupts formations, and creates openings for allies. 44 53 54
  • Adaptive reinforcement — adjusts the grass’s toughness and output to restrain stronger targets or resist environmental hazards. 44 53
  • Tang San habitually narrows its range or lowers its output to preserve Soul Power and conceal his capability. 20 34 38

Concealed Clear Sky Hammer

Tang San suppresses the Clear Sky Hammer during his Martial Soul awakening, ensuring only Blue Silver Grass is publicly revealed. 4

  • Its abilities and later use are not documented in the available chapters.
  • Its existence is known to Tang San and implied to have been noticed by Tang Hao during the awakening. 4

Tactical Command and Resource Management

Tang San excels at minimizing Soul Power expenditure while identifying enemy weaknesses, controlling priority targets, and directing team actions. 41 44 58 71

  • Uses hit-and-run tactics with Xiao Wu to wear down more durable opponents. 42
  • Prioritizes threats based on battlefield conditions rather than attacking the obvious strongest enemy first. 44
  • Coordinates teammates around openings he creates with Blue Silver Grass control. 44 45 52
  • Exploits terrain, elemental conditions, armor seams, Soul Power circulation gaps, and timed resonance intervals. 53 57 58 71

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Armor-Piercing Soul Tool Hook — Used with Blue Silver Grass to latch onto armor gaps and the Great Earth Rhinoceros’s carapace openings. 52 57
  • Armor Plate Gap Detector — Analyzes the Elephant Armor Academy reserve team’s Soul Power fluctuations to locate openings in their defensive formation. 58
  • Metal Hardness Detector — Identifies weaknesses in heavy armor equipment within the Metal Amplification Field. 71
  • Low-level Soul Power Recovery Soul Tool — Purchased in Heaven Dou City to reduce expenditure during later Spirit Combats. 46 47
  • Soul Power Recovery Potion — Carried for high-intensity team battles. 44
  • Fire-retardant ropes and healing medicine — Packed for higher-level Soul Beast expeditions. 51

Relationships

  • Tang Hao — Father. Initially disapproves of Tang San’s laziness, but grows more accepting after Tang San cares for him and privately conceals his strength. 1 2 4 6
  • Old Jack — Village elder and supporter who explains Martial Soul awakening and helps arrange Tang San’s path to Nuoding Academy. 1 2 6
  • Yu Xiaogang — Master and mentor. Teaches Tang San theory, perception, evasion, Soul Skill connection, and tactical Soul Power distribution, largely unaware of Tang San’s deliberate underperformance. 7 19 26 29
  • Xiao Wu — Close friend, academy companion, and Three-Five Combination partner. She frequently waits for him after training and follows his Spirit Combat strategies. 16 42 43
  • Wang Hu — Nuoding classmate and friendly rival who often urges Tang San to train harder without understanding his strategy. 2 19 29
  • Zhao Wuji — Harsh Shrek instructor whose punishing exercises force Tang San to find increasingly elaborate ways to conserve effort. 34 36 38
  • Flender — Shrek Academy leader who supports Tang San’s cautious combat approach and recognizes his tactical ability. 42 51 53
  • Dai Mubai, Oscar, Ma Hongjun, Ning Rongrong, Zhu Zhuqing — Shrek Seven Devils teammates who execute Tang San’s control-based strategies in Spirit Combat and field training. 41 44 58 71
