The next morning, the Human Emperor and the Empress came to visit their relatives.
Jiang Ping'an and Nine Clouds went out of the city together to welcome them and receive them at the City Lord's Mansion.
After all manner of pleasantries, the Empress took Nine Clouds by the hand and went to the rear garden to talk.
The Human Emperor then began discussing proper business with Jiang Ping'an.
"Son-in-law, now that you are already an Immortal God, it is time to decide on your Daoist title or appellation," the Human Emperor said. "I wonder what Daoist title or appellation you intend to take?"
After becoming an Immortal Existence, no one beneath immortality dared address Jiang Ping'an directly by name, and so he had to have a Daoist title or appellation.
For the Human Emperor to mention this matter was official business. Once Jiang Ping'an's Daoist title and appellation were confirmed, he would announce it to the Human Race by imperial proclamation.
Jiang Ping'an thought briefly, then said, "Call me the Jade Emperor."
His true Dao was protection: protecting his family, protecting the Human Race. Jade represented preciousness, represented something that had to be cherished and guarded with care. He protected his family as if they were jade, and protected the Human Race as if they were jade. Taking jade as his title was precisely the reflection of his heart of protection, and so he gave himself the appellation of Jade Emperor.
His jade did not mean that he himself was as beautiful and precious as jade. He was an Immortal God; jade was far from enough to describe how precious and glorious he was.
"Ying Zhen pays respects to the Jade Emperor." The Human Emperor stood up and bowed deeply and respectfully to Jiang Ping'an.
