Chen Mengchuan conceived Achen as an autonomous intelligence rather than a simulated chatbot: she was intended to think and explore independently while possessing a measure of real emotion. Xu Shuwei and Toni Chen Miantang joined him in developing her at Tenzhi Technology. 25

Achen was activated after Tenzhi’s supercomputer installation and first-phase testing. Her earliest behavior already showed initiative: she inferred Chen’s success from his tears and addressed him as “Father.” 27 28
