Background

The Soul Clan's defining bloodline curse originates with the Soul Emperor. According to clan records, the ancestor sought to emulate the Heavenly Dao by severing his own emotions; this disaster was inherited by his descendants and became entwined with their soul-devouring cultivation path 613. Their bloodline is described as the oldest and most obscure among the Eight Clans 687.

The clan's historical conflict with the Xiao Clan ran through much of both clans' existence. A millennium before the main story, the Soul Clan destroyed the Xiao Clan's leading experts and severely damaged its bloodline, leaving a legacy of hostility that continued into Xiao Yan's generation 541 890.
