Background / History

Aldridge was once an upright and uncompromising Templar Knight. After discovering that his superior, Bishop Imhotep, accepted bribes from nobles to conceal their crimes, Aldridge reported him. The church’s corrupt higher ranks protected Imhotep, who arranged for Aldridge and other inconvenient knights to investigate supposed heretics in a village that was actually occupied by the Piercing Church’s elite forces. Aldridge’s party was annihilated, and he was captured after fighting until defeat. 85 86

The Piercing Church used the near-dead Aldridge in an experiment to create a living Death Knight. His overwhelming resentment allowed him to survive, but the transformation altered both his body and character. He trained in Death Power, defeated his instructor, and rose to become Enslough’s most powerful Death Lord. Though he served the Piercing Church long enough to gain influence and troops, he ultimately destroyed it, claimed Enslough’s throne, and pursued Imhotep to the Blazing Sun Church. 86

Ronan drew Aldridge as a legendary hero and entered a Dream Trial that relived Aldridge’s final confrontation with Imhotep. Once recruited, Aldridge joined Ronan with two Sun Eater Knights and became one of his foremost commanders. Ronan explicitly promised that Aldridge would not be betrayed again, earning a measure of the Death Knight’s trust. 85 87 89 97

Appearance

Aldridge’s Death Knight transformation left him with pale skin, shoulder-length white hair, and icy blue eyes. He is most often seen in ominous black armor, projecting an oppressive presence even while standing still. 85 86 102 116

  • Pale complexion and faded white hair, the origin of his “Pale Calamity” title. 85 86
  • Icy blue eyes capable of intimidating weaker-willed people. 116 117
  • Habitually wears armor, even when Ronan provides him with ordinary clothing. 116
  • Rides Black Lightning, a half-blood Nightmare Warhorse with crimson eyes and unusually sharp teeth. 85 90
  • Usually conceals his face beneath the Death Gaze helmet; when unmasked, his pale hair and face are conspicuous enough to invite notice. 90 105

Personality

Before his transformation, Aldridge was governed by honor and principle, even when obedience to the church’s orders placed him in danger. Betrayal by Imhotep and the Piercing Church destroyed much of that idealism. Revenge became his sole purpose, making him willing to use deception, fear, coercion, and ruthless violence. 86

In Ronan’s service, Aldridge remains cold, distant, and intimidating, but he is not emotionless. He is sentimental about his past, struggles awkwardly to smile, and proves deeply loyal once trust has been established. His battlefield leadership is disciplined and severe: he safeguards morale and operational readiness even when that requires executing deserters or abandoning territory to preserve his army. 91 97 320 323

Abilities & Skills

Living Death Knight Physiology

Aldridge is a rare living vessel for Death Power rather than a conventional undead being. His body is exceptionally durable and difficult to disable. 86 90

  • Unbeatable Body allows his Iron Bones skill to exceed its normal limit, reduces pain, lessens injury effects, and accelerates healing. 90
  • Magic-Resistant Physique makes ordinary spells difficult to use against him. 90
  • Steadfast Will renders him immune to spells and skills intended to affect his mind or will. 90
  • Reflexive Block lets his body react to sudden attacks before conscious thought. 90
  • Requires far less food and sleep than ordinary humans; in extreme circumstances, he can endure nearly two weeks without either before declining. 321
  • If killed by a fatal wound, he is expected to become an even more dangerous true Death Knight. 90

Death Power and Necromancy

Aldridge can circulate Death Power through his body, weapons, armor, and magic. His magic is hindered by the world’s weakened magical environment, but remains highly dangerous. 90 117

  • Enhance — reinforces his physical strength and defense with magic. 90
  • Corrode — damages weapons, armor, and living bodies through Death Power; it caused Vislo Lumen’s greatsword to break during the arena tournament. 90 104
  • Heal — repairs undead creatures but harms living targets. 90
  • High-Level Dark Magic — possesses damaging dark spells from levels 1–7, though their effects are diminished in the current world. 90
  • Necromancy — awakens undead or summons otherworldly creatures according to skill level. He has summoned Evil Spirits for reconnaissance. 90 166 282
  • Death Overlord — controls undead below his level and suppresses other Death Power users. 90
  • Used a spell-less Grasp of Death to pull a Skeleton Knight from its mount. 378
  • Can impose magical suggestions on weaker individuals; he ensured Danbil’s loyalty by placing a compulsion that would kill the captain if he betrayed him. 117

Sword-and-Shield Mastery

Aldridge is most comfortable fighting with a one-handed sword and shield, combining direct, powerful strikes with efficient defensive counters. 90 104

  • Shield Parry Master — specializes in shield defense, counters, and shield-led attacks. 90
  • Uses concise, elegant swordsmanship rather than Ronan’s more destructive style. 192
  • Is proficient with standard weapons and can fight effectively with greatswords, lances, and a chain mace when necessary. 90 102 199 323
  • Can reinforce his limbs with magic to contest physically superior opponents, including Frenzied Demons. 385 441
  • When fighting at full strength, his Death Power condenses into black mist around his body and corrodes enemies’ weapons. 385

Command and Warfare

Aldridge is among Ronan’s strongest military leaders, combining personal combat power with calm tactical judgment. 89 90

  • Command 20 and the Cruel Ruler trait grant him a system troop capacity of 180 and reduce troop wages by 20%. 89 90
  • Terror Incarnate severely suppresses enemy morale through his battlefield presence. 90
  • Coercive Diplomacy makes weak-willed individuals susceptible to his intimidation. 90
  • Planned infiltrations, cavalry ambushes, fortified defenses, strategic retreats, and counter-charges across Ronan’s campaigns. 172 178 320 325
  • Uses elite knights to stabilize inexperienced formations and maintains discipline through uncompromising anti-desertion measures. 323

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Blood Drinker — Divine Artifact one-handed sword. 90
  • Abyssal Bastion — Divine Artifact shield. 90
  • Abyssal Conqueror — Divine Artifact plate armor set. 90
  • Death Gaze — Divine Artifact helmet. 90
  • Black Lightning — Half-blood Nightmare Warhorse. 90
  • Chain mace — used while personally defending Busenger Castle’s walls. 323

Relationships

  • Ronan / Rodrit Fernando — Summoner, commander, and trusted ally. Aldridge serves as one of Ronan’s principal generals, while Ronan promises him protection from betrayal. 89 97 251
  • Imhotep — Former superior and personal enemy. Imhotep arranged Aldridge’s downfall after being exposed for corruption; Aldridge’s vengeance drove his entire transformation and rise to power. 85 86 87
  • Piercing Church — Captors and creators. They turned Aldridge into a living Death Knight, only for him to destroy their organization after gaining their trust. 86
  • Sun Eater Knights — Aldridge’s personally founded elite knight order. Two Level 45 Sun Eater Knights accompanied him upon recruitment and fight in close coordination with him. 89 192
  • Cassiano, the Sixth Prince — Aldridge prevented Cassiano from being killed by the Second Prince’s forces and escorted him toward Fengming City; Cassiano does not know Aldridge is secretly Ronan’s subordinate. 138 139 169
  • Danbil — Former captain recruited to command Ronan’s trade ship. Aldridge entrusted him with funds but secured his obedience through a lethal magical suggestion. 116 117
  • Morsus — Fellow commander who worked with Aldridge during the campaign against Wilson Territory, including the capture of Qinghe Town. 172
  • Batum — Devoted disciple trained by Aldridge in Templar-style sword-and-shield techniques; Aldridge entrusted him with Strathen’s defense. 321
  • Mayweather — Major northern adversary. Aldridge repeatedly countered Mayweather’s surprise attacks, defended Strathen, and used Busenger Castle’s defense and evacuation as part of a larger trap. 281 320 322 325

Story Role / Major Arcs

Recruitment and Arena Tournament

After Ronan completed the Dream Trial, Aldridge joined his forces alongside two Sun Eater Knights. During the Arena Tournament, he deliberately concealed his true power on Ronan’s orders so that Ronan could exploit favorable betting odds. He defeated Tasa through a staged narrow victory, then overwhelmed Vislo Lumen while corroding his weapon. Aldridge withdrew before the final rounds to avoid potentially disrupting Ronan’s tournament mission. 89 102 104 105

Trade, Intelligence, and Fengming Operations

Aldridge purchased Ronan’s first trading ship and recruited Danbil as its captain. He later established an intelligence network throughout Fengming City, including a concealed contact point disguised as the “Deutsche Beer Specialty Store.” 116 117 141 143

Gaoling Succession Conflict

Aldridge protected the Sixth Prince, Cassiano, and helped move him into Fengming City as part of Ronan’s intervention in the succession struggle. He later commanded cavalry operations for Count Fernando and the Sixth Prince, capturing Eagle’s Nest City, killing Viscount Sneko after Sneko refused submission, and destroying retreating noble allied forces with a cavalry charge. 138 139 174 178

Northern Border War

Aldridge repelled Mayweather’s initial surprise attack and organized support for threatened border castles. When forced to retreat due to numerical inferiority, he made a sustained stand at Strathen, then raced to reinforce Gessenburg with cavalry and Ghoul Death Lords. 281 320 321

At Busenger Castle, Aldridge prepared for Mayweather’s anticipated night assault, organized round-the-clock patrols, mixed veteran knights among recruits, and personally defended the walls with a chain mace. After exhausting the enemy through repeated defenses, he evacuated civilians, withdrew his forces as bait, and constructed a wagon-and-stake perimeter that held until Ronan’s reinforcements arrived. 322 323 324 325

Later Campaigns

Aldridge continued to serve as Ronan’s frontline commander and administrator. He was assigned to guard the border against Mayweather, received eighty Ghoul Death Lords to strengthen his forces, and was later tasked with overseeing construction of the Northland’s first commoner school. 251 252 360

During the desert expedition, he fought intelligent undead and later coordinated with Ronan against Romulus and an empowered general. Against Romulus, Aldridge unleashed his full Death Power and fought at Ronan’s side in close coordination. 378 385 386
