Background / History

Morsus was formerly enslaved. Upon seeing Black slaves confined in Fengming's slave market, he recalled how he had once broken his captor's neck and led his compatriots to secure a place to survive. 144

By the time Ronan returned to Fengming, Morsus was one of his closest armed companions. He accompanied Ronan through the city, sparred with him, and remained at his side during confrontations with the Wind Dao Gang and later assassins. 143 145 152

Ronan later used Morsus's past and standing among enslaved Black people to cultivate rebellion in enemy territory. After Ronan changed slave contracts from lifelong servitude to five years of labor and military service, many freed people regarded Ronan as their liberator and Morsus as their savior. 210

Morsus is an immense Black man, standing over two meters tall, with arms and thighs described as massive and hard as boulders. His size and dark skin draw attention in public; in darkness, his dark-gold armor is often the most visible part of him. 140 143 152

Personality

Morsus is fiercely loyal to Ronan and consistently treats his assignments as duties that must be fulfilled. He leads from the front, protects civilians and his soldiers, and inspires freed Black troops by framing their battles as proof that they are no longer slaves. 244 245

He is proud of defeating opponents through martial strength. During the assault on Marquis Ross's residence, he rejected Mattias's magical assistance because it felt like cheating, though he accepted Blackguard support when it served the battle. 221

While formidable in combat and able to inspire others, Morsus recognizes that he lacks exceptional strategic talent. He relies on Ronan and other heroes for broader plans, then executes their decisions without objection. 235

He can also be ruthless, personally overseeing the capture of the mission broker “Silver Mine” and the execution of Wind Dao Gang leader David. Yet he grants respect to worthy enemies, arranging burial within their homeland for the five knights who died defending the Ross residence. 155 221

Morsus led the Nord army's second assault wave after the first wave breached the walls. His spear throw shattered the defenders' resolve by impaling two soldiers and damaging the watchtower's gate mechanism, leading the city commander to surrender. 173

Assigned to incite rebellion among enslaved Black people, Morsus liberated slaves, armed them, and led the assault on the Lord's Mansion.
