No one could resist the temptation of Lao Gan Ma, not even a squirrel couple from another world.
After all, the great Zhou Shuren had once said, "There's nothing a bottle of Lao Gan Ma can't solve. If there is, then get another bottle."
Xu Nan was quite confident in this regard. After all, this was Chinese cuisine that supposedly controlled American prisons.
Honey? Sea salt? The people of this other world clearly still lived at a very low standard.
They urgently needed an upright, kind, promising young man like Xu Nan to help improve things.
In truth, Xu Nan had casually stuffed this jar of Lao Gan Ma into his bag for a Camping picnic. Later, too much happened and he forgot to take it out. When he entered Lost Paradise this time, he had brought it in with him as well.
He had not expected it to actually come in handy.
A few minutes later.
The Smith Couple both fell.
The two adorable squirrels wagged their tails and said vaguely, "You pass."
Then the two squirrels started fighting over the jar of chili sauce.
The side door of the house suddenly opened.
Xu Nan smiled faintly and walked inside. He had guessed it long ago.
After the Smith Couple appeared, he quickly calmed down and guessed that this was likely one of the tests for inheriting the house's assets.
After all, he had not encountered any proper monsters along the way. The test Exxon had left for his descendants was probably not about combat, but something else.
If an ordinary person faced the Smith Couple's question, they could probably only randomly choose one of two options from the assets Exxon had left behind.
But Xu Nan had luckily passed the test. The facts proved that Chinese cuisine really was number one in the world!
The structure of Exxon's house was not complicated.
After Xu Nan entered, the side door closed automatically. A Phoebe zhennan table slowly rose from the ground.
White candles burned throughout the wooden house. Although there were no electric lights, it was still very bright.
There was a thin booklet on the table, written in Common Language—
Gospel Book for Later Generations
Xu Nan's spirits rose.
What kind of gospel book would a legendary sorcerer leave behind?
He impatiently sat down and opened the book.
The very first sentence stunned Xu Nan.
The greatest mistake of my life was believing that bunch of bastards!
Dear successor, you must remember one extremely important point. This is also the key to this gospel book!
Sorcerers primarily invest in Charisma and Intelligence!
Never split your points between Strength and Constitution!
Never split your points between Strength and Constitution!
Never split your points between Strength and Constitution!
Xu Nan was dumbfounded.
Looking at the gospel book's high-end packaging, its exquisite handwriting, and the overwhelming momentum of its opening, he had thought it would contain some incredibly important wisdom!
"Aren't sorcerers supposed to focus on Charisma and Intelligence?"
Xu Nan looked utterly confused. Still, he continued reading. Most of the book warned future generations that Strength and Constitution were not necessities for sorcerers. Charisma and Intelligence were!
It turned out that—
This legendary sorcerer named Exxon had encountered a minor mishap during the process of inheriting his bloodline when he was young, leaving him somewhat lost when allocating attribute points.
So he sought advice from a highly respected mage who was drunk at the time.
The mage casually told him, "For a sorcerer, split your points between Strength and Constitution. Use a staff as your main weapon, and either blades or swords as your off-hand weapon. Then level up all your melee skills—Cleave, Military Swordsmanship, Powerful Block, Sweep Through Thousands of Troops—max them all out... Just learn Light Spell for illumination."
Exxon bowed gratefully. "Thank you. I'll go do that right away."
Many years later, after Exxon became a powerful legendary sorcerer, the first thing he did was seek revenge on that mage. Xu Nan did not know the exact details, but according to Exxon, he had smashed that mage's dog head open with a staff.
Even so, Exxon remained deeply resentful over having allocated his points wrong.
If he had not later awakened another bloodline within himself during his adventures—the Dragon Bloodline—and successfully transformed into a true melee expert, he would have died in close combat who knew how many times.
The awakening of the Dragon Bloodline also fiercely conflicted with the Ron Sorcerer bloodline. Exxon suffered greatly before fusing the two, and he was ultimately able to advance to legend through the advantages this gave him.
But his painful experiences in his youth made him believe that allocating points wrong as a sorcerer was fatal.
That was why this earnest gospel book existed.
Xu Nan fell silent.
"Isn't this fucking Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings...?"
While sympathizing with Exxon's early experiences, Xu Nan also felt a dull ache in his balls.
Fortunately, the final few pages of the gospel book briefly introduced the assets Exxon had left on the first floor of Lost Paradise.
These assets could be divided into three parts, all of them located within the house.
The first part included the gospel book and a treasure chest. Xu Nan could take these things away now, as the reward for passing the Smith Couple's test.
The second part consisted of two magic items, supposedly handy weapons Exxon had used in his youth.
Reading this, Xu Nan vaguely felt that something was wrong. What kind of weapons would a sorcerer who had allocated his points wrong use in his youth?
But the words "magic items" still excited him somewhat. After all, he did not even have ordinary equipment on his entire body apart from a single ring, much less genuine magic equipment.
As for the third part, it was a Bloodline Fruit.
To obtain the latter two portions of the assets, Xu Nan needed to pass the tests Exxon had left behind.
Xu Nan put away the gospel book and looked at the door leading to the second room, in no hurry for the moment.
He found the treasure chest in the corner of the room and gently opened it.
The chest was filled with a dazzling array of items. This legendary sorcerer Exxon had truly taken excellent care of his descendants.
The first thing he saw was a palm-sized Storage Bag. It could be hung from the waist or hidden beneath clothing, and it contained five cubic feet of space for storing items.
This was also the first spatial item Xu Nan had obtained. He treasured it dearly and tried the Storage Bag's incantation several times. Before long, he had mastered how to use it.
Next came large gold bars. Xu Nan squeezed them and found that they were all high-purity gold, probably not something made with Philosopher's Stone to fool later generations.
Third was a bag of jewelry and jade. Though the quantity was not large, the variety was complete: Blue Crystal, amethyst, ruby, King's Tear, Goddess's Red Silk, Dragon Eye Stone... There was even an Azure Heart of extremely high quality!
Xu Nan estimated that this bag of gemstones was the most valuable. In alchemy, such gems were important materials for crafting powerful magic equipment.
Finally, there was a sandalwood box containing a stack of blank scrolls.
Xu Nan checked them with Appraisal Technique and discovered that these blank scrolls were made from the softest young skin beneath a Wyvern's belly, making them extremely suitable for writing and copying scrolls!
Boss Exxon was generous!
Xu Nan silently thanked his predecessor for the gifts, then stuffed everything from the chest into the Storage Bag.
Next, it was time to explore the second portion of the house's assets.
Xu Nan stood at the door and took several deep breaths before nervously pushing open the house's Magic Gate.
A vast expanse of farmland suddenly appeared ahead!
There were strange holes all over the farmland. The holes were not small, and as Xu Nan walked among them, he felt a strong sense of danger.
Could a monster jump out of one of these holes at any moment?
Cherishing his life, Xu Nan silently cast Mage Armor and Shield Spell on himself again.
At the center of the Pumpkin Field, he spotted a floating staff and a pair of Iron Gauntlets.
There was also a parchment book beside them.
The Trial of the Innocent Staff
The Innocent Staff was one of my favorite weapons in my youth. It was extremely handy to use. Although melee combat is not a sorcerer's specialty, it is still decent for self-defense. Here, I must remind you once again, child: when choosing an off-hand weapon, never choose blades or swords. The correct choice should be thrown weapons such as short spears. Even a slingshot would do. Just do not choose blades or swords—don't ask me why! Fine, I'll tell you... Young sorcerers can never control the restlessness within themselves. When you hold a longsword in your hand, you often lose your mind and charge into a pack of monsters, slashing wildly in every direction. That is extremely dangerous for a spellcaster!
I tell you this from my painful experience so that no one else will suffer the tragedy of losing a *** during an exciting melee brawl like I did...
Xu Nan stared in utter disbelief.
Back to the point. As long as you pass the trial, you can obtain the Innocent Staff, this fine weapon for self-defense. See the Pumpkin Field? When you are ready, pumpkins will pop out. You need to hold the Innocent Staff and strike those emerging pumpkins. Your speed, precision, and accuracy must all meet the standard! Good luck, child!
The signature was naturally Exxon Romang.
Xu Nan read the parchment book carefully several times, then cast Appraisal Technique on the two weapons.
Innocent Staff Quality: Magic Physical Damage: 10–15 Effect: When you use the staff to attack an enemy's head, 100% chance to stun, 10% chance to land a headshot Equipment Requirement: Extraordinary Strength (20 points or above) / Sorcerer Incantation: I didn't do it on purpose! (The incantation is not required, but if you chant it while attacking, the headshot rate doubles)
Xu Nan's face was full of question marks. "This thing is sorcerer equipment?"
He then looked at the Iron Gauntlets.
Iron Gauntlets Quality: Magic Effect: Ignore equipment Strength requirements Effect 2: Anti-Magic
Xu Nan immediately understood. These Iron Gauntlets were probably prepared by Exxon specifically for sorcerer descendants who definitely lacked enough Strength. After all, other than him, which Ron Sorcerer could possess Extraordinary Strength?
In his view, the Iron Gauntlets were still quite powerful. They actually allowed someone to ignore an item's Strength requirements. Not only could this be used with the Innocent Staff, it might come in handy elsewhere in the future.
The negative effect of Anti-Magic was rather terrifying. It meant Xu Nan had to carefully consider when to equip the Iron Gauntlets and Innocent Staff. Otherwise, if he could not cast spells, the consequences would be serious.
He first loosened up his muscles, put on the Iron Gauntlets, then grabbed the heavy Innocent Staff.
A whistle suddenly rang out in the Pumpkin Field.
At some point, the Smith Couple had appeared at the edge of the farmland. There were still traces of chili sauce at the corners of their mouths.
A pumpkin suddenly popped up not far from Xu Nan.
Xu Nan grinned when he saw it. "Isn't this Whac-A-Mole?"
"I'm good at this!"
With that, he raised the staff and brought it down hard!
