The Warp, a corner unreachable by any probe.
Four Warp Entities gathered abnormally, peering through a mirror into a world that did not belong to them.
The Blue Horror was the most excited of them all, emitting bursts of shrill laughter and occasionally spouting gibberish like, "This Cursed One is so weak!" "He can't even beat a toad!" "He swallowed it, he swallowed it, that's snow!"
Perhaps finding it too noisy, a figure clad in blood-red armor struck hard, shattering the blue slime-creature instantly. The blue goo splattered everywhere, splashing onto everything, including a pot of green soup that had been boiled repeatedly.
"Noisy! Do not insult my supreme wisdom with your insignificance."
"Bullshit, you brainless brute, how can you claim wisdom? Khorne, are you joking?"
With nothing left to say, the rare harmony was shattered instantly. Neither red nor blue could best the other, so they could only tear at each other on the ground like shrews.
Nurgle said nothing, silently using a spoon to scoop out the slime. Watching the tiny alt-account slime in the spoon shout that everything was going according to plan, even for Him, the most patient of them all, this pot of soup was ruined.
As the least experienced of them, the purple phantom did not watch "The Suffering of the Yellow Skins" like the three perverts. Instead, through the void, he looked lovingly at the figure of Mordred, with indescribable pink slime oozing from beneath him.
Perhaps the gaze was too lewd, for Mordred in the vision shuddered violently and wrapped his little blanket tighter around himself.
The voyeurism of the Four Chaos Gods aside, for the Second Legion—which had experienced the Unification Wars on Terra, the annihilation of the Luna Gene-Cult, and had seen new members randomly emerge from almost every campaign since the start of the Great Crusade—today was a special day.
A standard Terran week ago, Fulgrim, Primarch of the Third Legion, had returned. Even more excitingly, near Chemos, on a route approaching the Galactic Core, a new Primarch had been sensed by His Majesty.
And this Highness was very likely the Primarch of their own Second Legion, the Soul Drinkers.
For this reason, the Soul Drinkers scattered across various legions began to gather, advancing toward the fleet where the Emperor was located, preparing to meet their Primarch for the first time.
"Goff, our Primarch has been found! Do you know what this means? It means we don't have to live under others' roofs anymore.
You lot have no idea; every time I run into Abaddon, that bastard can't go a single sentence without mentioning Horus—he's a total daddy-obsessed queer. I despise that kind of person most of all. So what if you have a father? We have one now, too.
Wearing Mark II Power Armour and standing two point seven meters tall, First Captain Brian Haig paced excitedly on the bridge, fantasizing about their future life of showing off their father to other legions.
"Heh! Who's to say otherwise? At least you went to the Moon Wolves. I was assigned to the First Legion; life there was even more fucked up. The cipher codes alone could blow my brains out. I really don't know how they remember them.
I also had to do dirty work every day. Good thing I was more skilled, otherwise I would have been backstabbed.
Hahaha, they will never guess that I secretly keep a diary!"
Seeing someone chime in, the several captains gathered on the bridge began to complain one after another. Some said the Ninth Legion secretly ate corpses, while others claimed the Nineteenth Legion could hide inside a tin can. But soon, the captain who had studied in the Nineteenth Legion was scolded, told his brain had been kicked by the Space Wolves, and that it was unscientific for a person to hide in a can.
The captain who had studied with the Space Wolves felt offended, arguing that the Space Wolves were not as barbaric as they appeared, and were actually quite sly behind the scenes.
"Forget the cans, listen to me, listen to me.
I went to the Twentieth Legion, and you'll never guess what happened. I think I discovered a huge secret. I saw a giant, short Primarch, only a head taller than me! But no one believes me. He said he was just Alpharius. I'm the real Alpharius, okay?"
Looking at the giant big guys in front of him, each with different appearances but all loose-lipped, the acting Legion Commander of the Second Legion, Goff Myne, felt his face darken. He was genuinely afraid that the ship beneath his feet would accidentally get lost in the Warp.
"Enough! Can you guys give me some peace of mind? Can't you learn from me? Even if I formed cliques in the Thirteenth Legion and looked ambitious, would I say it out loud? Would I say it out loud? Answer me!"
Everyone was silent... thinking that the commander hadn't said it, but he had already shouted it.
After a moment of silence, seeing there were no outsiders, Goff asked:
"By the way, with our Second Legion's reputation being so rotten, won't Father dislike us when he sees us?"
A deeper, deadlier silence fell. No one could be sure, as the Second Legion's reputation was indeed poor—they were slippery, opportunistic, prone to sticky fingers, and loved to court death on various battlefields.
It was only because their combat power was strong, and they could rely on their Father's might to survive no matter how they messed up, that they hadn't been sent by His Majesty to do ash-hauling duties long ago.
At the thought of the miserable life of hauling ash on construction sites or digging dirt every day, everyone looked at the two unlucky fellows who had studied in the Seventh and Fourth Legions.
"I have an idea!
What if we bring some gifts when we meet Father? I've already prepared. Taking advantage of my position, I saved some Automatons while raiding houses for the First Legion. I guarantee I'll win Father's favor."
"What a coincidence, I've prepared some gifts too." A captain draped in a red trench coat, who had completed two study terms on Mars and with the Iron Hands, waved his mechanical arm, projecting a Warlord Titan. Even the paint on it was new.
Soon, the original complaint session turned into a treasure-offering session. Every captain had their own specialty, and those who didn't even brought a few Fenrisian Wolves, intending to gift them to the Primarch as pets.
Watching this vibrant scene, where it felt like everyone would be swarmed by several unnamed legions in the next second, Legion Commander Goff smiled with relief.
"Sigh! I hope Father won't mind the trouble we've caused him! It seems only I am the offspring who can give Father the most peace of mind! After all, I only kept a little Gene-Seed for others. It should be fine."
The massive Gloriana-class Battleship cut through the void, and fortunately, without encountering any Warp navigation errors, it arrived at the target sector successfully.
However, before reaching the world named Catachan, the Second Legion discovered another living planet next to the world where the Primarch was located, and a strange battle was taking place upon it.
Through the holographic projection, the captains saw a group of natives flying their ridiculous aircraft above the Titan, using patched-up parachutes to start a boarding action to seize control of the Machine God.
Due to the radiation clouds affecting the view, everyone could only vaguely see that there were xenos mixed in among those natives.
This situation was exactly like someone sending a pillow when one was sleepy. The Second Legion was just worrying about what to take as a gift to meet the Primarch, and here it was.
"Brothers, don't worry. I will not enjoy the glory of this victory alone. This is everyone's credit. We will give Father a wonderful victory and prove to the other legions that we are not cowards!"
"Good! Well said, worthy of someone who studied with the Sons of Horus. Those things down there are no longer ordinary xenos. I propose we use the ship's cannons to bomb them!"
The First Captain's proposal was quickly adopted. After a brief aim, Goff, as the acting Legion Commander, walked to the firing console and flipped open the cover of the giant red button. His movements were fluid and practiced, even considering the weapon category that would preserve the Titan.
Finally, Goff decided to use the Lance, aiming to wipe out the castle structure used for decoration atop the Titan before starting the boarding action.
"Father, witness me! Heh ha! Long live the Second Legion!"
Meanwhile, Mordred, who was leading a boarding squad on top of the Titan and playing urban warfare with robots, suddenly felt a palpitation, as if something bad was about to happen.
Without a moment's hesitation, Mordred roared:
"Retreat! Fall back, forget that scrap metal, run!"
As the words left his lips, a brilliant radiance Descended from the Sky—unstoppable, irresistible—and Slammed into the castle everyone had been fighting over.
Time froze. In the final instant before the light descended, a lush green meadow replaced reality, dragging away the boarding boys who hadn't yet realized what was happening.
Mordred, however, faced the Radiant Light Spear head-on, leaving behind only a curse swallowed by the explosion:
"You Yellow Skins, you're really going for the Eleven-to-one right now, aren't you!"
