Background / History

The Emperor's original name has been lost to time; even “Neos” is not his original name. Before assuming the role of Emperor, he preferred the life of a scholar and scientist, but ultimately chose to lead humanity after Malcador introduced him to Old Terra's surviving cultural heritage. 268 453

He created the Primarchs to serve as generals, commanders, and sons after Terra's Unification Wars. Their accelerated growth, extreme resilience, and genetically imposed filial instincts were intended to ensure their usefulness and loyalty. 469 He envisioned the Great Crusade as humanity's path to greatness and viewed threats such as Outsider Wanderers as existential dangers to reality itself. 5

His reunion with Mordred began in hostility: the two fought during their first dinner, with the Emperor relying on psychic power to defeat and heal his rebellious son. Despite admitting that the Primarchs had been created for the Great Crusade, he asked Mordred for help and gradually developed a closer, if uneasy, father-son bond with him. 5 6

The Emperor later made Mordred his most trusted heir for the task of locating the lost Primarchs, reasoning that only Mordred understood the hidden crisis and the full scope of his plans. 20
