Background
Horus originated on the gang-ridden hive world of Cthonia. After the death of his adoptive father, he was found by the Emperor and became the Emperor's First Returned Son. He spent thirty years at the Emperor's side, a period he remembers as the best time of his life and the foundation of his intense paternal devotion. 83 283
As the earliest prominent Primarch to return, Horus became an admired elder brother and mentor figure to later-found Primarchs. The Emperor entrusted the young Fulgrim to his care, while many Legions later shared combat experience under the Moon Wolves' command. 28 129
Horus initially suffered jealousy and insecurity when Mordred was named Warmaster in his nightmares, fearing that he had been replaced as the Emperor's favored son. After personally observing Mordred's conduct and supporting Atlas's industrial ambitions, he came to regard him as a good brother rather than a rival. 83 84
Appearance
Horus is a towering, handsome Primarch whose appeal comes chiefly from his warm and charismatic bearing. His thinning hair is repeatedly noted, despite the continued attractiveness of his features. 83 165
- Slightly thinning crown and hairline. 83 165
- A smile described as warm and reassuring. 165
- Powerful physique and rugged stubble, even while disguised in human form. 171
- During his journey into ancient Terra, he was transformed into a silver-white wolf with a golden collar. 210
- Chaos corruption later gave him a thick head of blonde hair and mismatched eyes. 266
Personality
Horus is dutiful, charismatic, and deeply protective of his brothers. He takes the responsibilities of command seriously, handling campaigns, Legion administration, and expedition planning even when exhausted. 83 210
His defining trait is his attachment to the Emperor. Horus considers the Emperor both father and comrade-in-arms, and his need for that relationship shapes his fears, ambitions, and eventual willingness to sacrifice himself. 83 214 266
Despite his sentimentality, Horus can be practical and ruthless when his family is threatened. He opposed Mordred's proposal to destroy Colchis without evidence, insisting on direct investigation, but also promised that enemies of his brothers would leave no corpse behind. 169
