Background
Mordred originated on a blue planet called Earth rather than Terra. After being struck by a meteor and landing in a pit, he was found and raised by Thomas Wayne, a Dog-man shaman whom Mordred remembers as his adoptive father. His early life among Dog-men shaped both his attachment to them and his lasting fear of poverty. 163 294 367
The Emperor later remade him into one of the Primarchs. The Emperor claims Mordred’s genetic composition came from failed Primarch experiments and leftover materials, while Mordred’s biological mother is identified as Eldar. 7 159 431 On meeting the Second Legion, Mordred recognized its warriors as his progeny and forgave them for nearly killing him; they became his legion after kneeling in repentance for half a month. 6
Granted broad autonomy over the Second Legion, Mordred developed Atlas into a force centered on logistics, biotechnology, adaptation, and collective growth. He authored the Atlas Codex, founded the Black Knights with the Khan to manage sensitive internal matters, and turned Serenity’s technological resources toward gene-seed research and biological modification. 7 23 30
His attempt to accumulate power culminated in the Great Heresy, when he became the Dark King’s vessel and attacked Terra in a state of madness. Recognizing that full Warp godhood would consume his identity, Mordred chose to die in order to halt the ascension. 286 298 He later returned in a weakened form, rebuilt himself through daemon and Star God fragments, and resumed leadership of Atlas and Imperial reconstruction efforts. 317 330 367
Appearance
Mordred’s body is mutable; he can alter his size, limb count, and overall species-like form. In his preferred humanoid appearance, he is a blond Primarch with softer, approachable facial features, a long spiked tail, and an aggressively unconventional wardrobe. 61 76 330
- Usually presents as a tall blond man; the Emperor notes his natural height is roughly 3.8 meters, excluding his exaggerated hair. 109
- Can shrink to ordinary human size or assume a three-meter humanoid form. 61 330
- Can manifest four arms, two pairs of bone wings, chitinous claws, and a tail. 61 118
- Has also taken the forms of an orange-and-white short-legged dog, black slime, a winged dragon, and a massive chitinous beast. 423 467 330 344
- His true body is a grotesque mass of flesh, tentacles, mouths, teeth, and eyes that damages the sanity of intelligent observers. 291 467
- Favors tank tops, coats, slippers, scarves, heavy jewelry, and conspicuous hairstyles regardless of setting. 137 254 464
Personality
Mordred is cunning, vain, impulsive, and deeply contradictory. He routinely manipulates people, spreads rumors, pursues dangerous research, and proposes unethical solutions to military problems, yet he also commits extensive resources to his sons, civilian infrastructure, medical work, and the recovery of his brothers. 6 332 367 437
He believes himself to be an ordinary human despite his increasingly monstrous nature. Mordred is highly sensitive to praise, easily provoked by insult, and prone to losing control when angered; his brothers conclude that flattering him before challenging him is the most reliable way to make him act. 367 425 He possesses a persistent contempt for the world around him and often regards everyone else as an idiot, but he hides this alienation by becoming whatever image others most want to see. 294
His strongest loyalty is toward Atlas. Mordred can accept his sons dying in battle, but regards betrayal or exploitation of them as intolerable. 367
Abilities & Skills
Primarch Physiology and Regeneration
Mordred is a physical “stats monster” whose durability and recovery make conventional lethal injuries temporary.
- Can rapidly regenerate even after half his body is destroyed, provided he has an energy source. 2 284
- Can survive on extremely poor sustenance, including dirt. 2
- Has accelerated beyond eight times the speed of sound in combat. 284
- Can survive in outer space and endure impacts that would destroy ordinary lifeforms. 446
- His raw power can be overwhelmed by opponents amplified by larger forces, as shown against Horus and Bonebreaker. 284 443
Flesh Manipulation and Transformation
Mordred’s body is fundamentally a mutable mass of flesh rather than a fixed biological form.
- Can retract extra arms and bone wings or reshape himself into a smaller humanoid body. 61
- Can take animal, monstrous, mechanical-looking, or heavily armored forms. 170 320 344
- Generates tentacles from damaged flesh for combat, consumption, and assimilation. 118 344
- His true body is physically difficult to kill because it lacks normal vital points. 292
Charisma and Perceptual Adaptation
Mordred inherited the Emperor’s charisma, though its effect is stranger than ordinary attractiveness.
- Passively attracts irrationally devoted admirers among nearby intelligent beings. 2
- Simpler creatures such as Ogryn and Dog-men are less affected. 2
- Appears to others as an image suited to their desires or ideals, causing different Primarchs to perceive him in radically different ways. 294
- Is immune to the Emperor’s charm and cannot be mentally dominated through it. 453
Fel Energy and Daemon Devouring
Mordred consumes daemonic, xenos, and Star God-derived power to restore himself and evolve.
- Can devour daemons and convert their energy into emerald Chaos/Fel Energy. 23 118
- Uses corrupted Atomic Breath, protective fields, enhanced claws, and destructive energy blasts in battle. 118 403
- Can corrupt daemons in reverse rather than merely being corrupted by them. 403
- His higher-dimensional nature prevents Chaos Gods from fully corrupting him. 113 477
- Overconsumption previously contributed to his disastrous godhood ascent; he now deliberately limits his feeding. 298 330
Flash Backstab and Mobility
Mordred’s preferred opening attack is teleporting behind an opponent for a close-range strike.
- Uses emerald flashes to reposition instantly behind targets. 118 284
- Can employ a lesser version of strategic spatial traversal, referred to as Prairie Walker, for repeated short-range movement. 446
- His spatial movement is inferior to the Lion’s true Forestwalk and is unsuitable for effortless interstellar travel. 446
Mind Network and Legion Enhancement
Mordred acts as the central anchor of Atlas’s collective network.
- Atlas warriors can share combat experience and knowledge as node organisms through the Mind Network. 131
- Every increase in Mordred’s strength directly enhances Atlas. 131
- Atlas’s gene-seed and Mind Network make the legion exceptionally adaptive, but also leave it vulnerable to Mordred’s corruption or collapse. 334
- Can perceive events through Atlas personnel as though they were his own eyes. 368
Biochemical Research and Engineering
Mordred’s greatest non-combat strength is research, particularly biological modification.
- Investigates gene-seed defects and develops treatments for Space Marine genetic illnesses. 30 224
- Conducts heretical experiments, cloning, resurrection procedures, and body modification. 29 78
- Can repair damaged adamantium equipment using Emerald Lightning. 368
- Designed inventions including gene-seed storage systems, transformation potions, medical devices, and Legion-specific modifications. 224 332
- His inventions are powerful but often impractical, expensive, or dangerously eccentric. 224 332
Psychic and Webway Anomaly
Mordred claims he cannot use conventional psychic power because of the Star God fragment within him, yet repeatedly demonstrates anomalous psychic and technical potential.
- Possesses precognition and has warned others about possible futures. 50
- Unconsciously constructed a functional Webway segment, astonishing the Emperor and Mechanicus. 128 129
- Cannot reliably reproduce this feat on command. 129
- Uses high-dimensional traits as an alternative to standard psychic techniques. 50 477

- Thomas Wayne — Dog-man shaman and Mordred’s adoptive father; Mordred retains deep affection and respect for him. 163 367
- Eldar — Mordred’s biological mother, whose resemblance to him is immediately apparent to others. 159 431
- Atlas / Second Legion — Mordred’s sons and primary loyalty. Their collective power and survival are bound directly to his condition. 6 131 367

- Sanguinius — Brother whose recovery from the demonic realm becomes one of Mordred’s major objectives. 461 474
Story Role / Major Arcs
Second Legion and Atlas

The Great Heresy
Mordred’s accumulated Warp power transforms him into the Dark King’s vessel. He attacks Terra as a planet-sized flesh entity, but ultimately chooses self-destruction rather than allow godhood to erase his remaining self. 286 292 298
Return and Reconstruction
After returning in a weakened state, Mordred restores his body through daemon and Star God fragments, reclaims authority over Atlas, strengthens Terra’s infrastructure, founds Holy Terra Vocational Technical College, and revives the Lizardmen under Rexa. 330 367 386 437
