"A business trip? Europe?" Hao Ren looked at Raven 12345 in surprise. "How come I have foreign tenants?"
Raven 12345 eyed Hao Ren up and down with a strange look. "When will your thinking catch up with the times? I already told you they're anomalies, they don't have nationalities! When your vampire was born, early humans couldn't even walk upright yet, so what nationality is she?"
Hao Ren quickly slapped his forehead, admitting his mistake and claiming his imagination was shackled by the rigid thinking of Earthlings. He then hurried to ask for the mission details: "Who am I picking up? Where exactly? When do I go? And most importantly – will the organization cover the round-trip airfare?"
"Look at you," Raven 12345 glanced at Hao Ren sideways. "Don't worry, all your travel expenses will be reimbursed by the organization. I was originally going to open a portal for you, but considering new employees need training, it's better to give you the funds and let you figure out how to get there yourself. As for what your 'client' looks like… well, I'm not entirely sure yet. His arrival here was quite unusual, and he should be disguised. However, the data terminal you carry will emit a recognition signal, and he'll find you to make contact. Also, don't worry about passports and other procedures; I've already prepared them through 'special channels.' Just take them with you when you leave later."
Hao Ren nodded repeatedly, then suddenly remembered something. "Right, what about the other two at home? They still fight every few days… I really can't just leave them unsupervised!"
Thinking about how much trouble Lily and Vivian could cause without supervision, and how long his house would last in a battle between two super-powered women, Hao Ren broke out in a cold sweat. This problem absolutely had to be solved beforehand. He didn't want to go home and have the first thing he did be calling a construction crew to rebuild his house.
"Bring those two with you; they might be useful. I've already prepared their paperwork too," Raven 12345 waved her delicate hand. "After all, that vampire has traveled all over the world, and the werewolf can help you fight. Consider this a team-building exercise. Don't worry about them refusing; I have a general idea of their situation, and those two… are bored."
Hao Ren was very concerned about the meaning of "team-building" and "useful" that she mentioned. His instincts gave him a vague sense of crisis, but he didn't ask for details. Raven 12345 was happy to explain the current situation but never revealed future details, and he had already learned this.
"If you've got all the information, hurry up and go," Raven 12345 patted Hao Ren on the shoulder. "Go back and check your bank card; the mission funds are there. I'll send you the specific contact location and meeting details to your data terminal this afternoon. This is a minor mission; every probationary examiner starts with these trivial matters – get some good training."
Hao Ren had just managed to nod when he felt the world spin. When he came to, he was back on the road near Wangba Tuozi. The throbbing pain in his shoulder and the file folder that had appeared in his hand confirmed that his experience wasn't a dream. Every time he visited that large house, he felt a sense of unreality, like a dream, mainly because the spatial teleportation process was so unbelievable.
He remembered Raven 12345 saying she'd transfer the funds to his bank card and couldn't help but smirk. Setting aside how she knew his card number – that woman was omnipotent, so nothing she did was surprising – what was truly laughable was that working for gods still involved this kind of method for allocating operational funds… it was hardly like the novels.
"Hey, I forgot something!" Hao Ren suddenly smacked his forehead. "I still haven't asked about Vivian's blood magic failing!"
A couple of days ago, Vivian had tried to use blood magic to soothe Hao Ren's "nightmares," but neither the magic nor the vampire blood had worked. Instead, Hao Ren had absorbed both, which had been bothering him. However, this meeting with Raven 12345 had been so fast-paced that he hadn't had a chance to ask.
Looking at the clear, bright sky above and thinking about how busy Raven 12345 seemed, Hao Ren shook his head and decided to ask next time.
He took a car back to Baishi Road in the South Suburbs. To his relief, his house looked fine. There was no thick smoke billowing, nor were there any suspicious explosions. It seemed the two super-powered women hadn't fought while he was out – though it was also possible Lily had gone out on a "house call" and hadn't returned yet. Hao Ren walked up, took out his key, and opened the door. Before he could see anyone, he called out to the living room, "I'm back!"
The house was quiet, with no human voices. Hao Ren entered, closed the door, and found no sound at all. The living room air conditioner was also off. Hao Ren peeked around for a long time, and finally, only Gun leisurely strolled out of the kitchen to greet him.
"Holy crap… Did those two super-powered women go out to duel?"
Hao Ren immediately thought of a terrifying possibility. He wasn't usually so pessimistic, but ever since Vivian and Lily had nearly drawn blood over whether a Tibetan Mastiff could beat a wolf, he realized that as long as those two super-powered women lived in his house, he had to develop the habit of expecting the worst. As long as they weren't in his sight, anything was possible!
Hao Ren felt a wave of unease. The weather was already hot, and he had walked under the sun for a while. Now he felt sweat trickling all over him. He found the air conditioner remote to cool himself down, only to discover – the power was out.
"What's going on today… Everything's going wrong right after I got a mission?" Hao Ren thought superstitiously.
Just then, he suddenly heard two familiar young girls' voices at the door, and a weight lifted from his heart. It was Vivian and Lily returning; it seemed they hadn't gone dueling.
"Oh, Landlord, you're back?" Lily was the first to bound into the house, exclaiming when she saw Hao Ren. "It's almost noon, Landlord, let's eat!"
…This wolf girl's brain is probably made of noodles and rice. When it's mealtime, her brain can't think of anything else!
"What were you two doing?" Hao Ren wiped the sweat from his forehead, looking at Vivian (Lily was already in a food-waiting state, basically useless for conversation at this point). "I thought you'd gone out to duel."
"The power went out earlier, and I thought it was time to pay the electricity bill," Vivian said with a smile. "So, I went out to find Big Dog to go with me."
Lily, uncharacteristically, didn't jump up to argue with Vivian. This silly girl was called "Big Dog" by Vivian all the time, and now she couldn't react anymore.
"You two went together to pay an electricity bill?" Hao Ren looked at Vivian strangely but quickly realized, "Oh right, you can't touch money."
Vivian's smile froze. Being reminded of her fatal flaw must not feel good, but she eventually shrugged indifferently, "The neighborhood transformer blew up, so the power's been out all day."
Hao Ren said "Oh," and picked up a nearby magazine to fan himself. "This is killing me, it's so hot… This power outage couldn't have come at a worse time. Hey, Lily, what's wrong with you?"
Lily was crouched on the sofa on all fours, her tongue sticking out and panting heavily. "I ran a bit too fast coming back just now, I'm a little hot."
Vivian and Hao Ren stared at her, dumbfounded. Calling Lily a big dog really wasn't inaccurate; this way of cooling down was too advanced!
Although seeing a beautiful girl acting so foolishly had a unique kind of charm, Hao Ren still couldn't quite watch. So, he tactfully reminded Lily, "In your current form… do you still need to stick your tongue out?"
Lily thought for a moment, felt the fine sweat on her body, and then realized. She quickly resumed a normal sitting posture and retracted her tongue. "Oh, it's a habit. I always forget; I haven't changed it in so many years."
Hao Ren chuckled dryly, unsure what to say at this moment. But just then, a cool breeze suddenly blew from the side.
He turned his head in surprise and saw that Vivian had transformed into her vampire state. A visible faint red mist of blood surrounded her as she emitted cold air and flapped two small folding fans vigorously in all directions…
"Landlord, do you think this works?"
Hao Ren's eyes widened. "You can do that?!"
Lily, forgetting for a moment that Vivian was her sworn enemy, scurried over. While enjoying the cool breeze, she asked, "Hey, Winged One, don't you usually give off a strange smell when you emit cold air?"
Vivian raised an eyebrow. "That's only when I'm fighting. When I'm just cooling myself down, can't I blow some clean air?"
Hao Ren's understanding of the proper use of non-human girls was greatly expanded, and he smiled broadly. "That's great, Vivian. You can be the air conditioner from now on. Just the electricity bill you save would cover half your rent for half a month!"
Then, he announced the task he had just received from Raven 12345. "By the way, I have to go on a trip in a couple of days – that Time-Space Administration Bureau mission, going to Europe. No time limit. You guys had better come along. What do you say, are you free?"
