The secrets of this world were hidden in plain sight.
A deep rumble rolled out from the pyramid, as though tens of thousands of tons of boulders were tumbling throughout the magnificent ancient structure. Huge amounts of rubble and dust cascaded down from the pyramid amid the shaking, and as the dust accumulated over tens of thousands of years fell away, the pyramid's outer shell opened.
It had originally been a building with no doors or windows. Now, however, a series of massive stones along its sides separated from the tower under the force of ancient mechanisms. The boulders, each weighing more than ten tons, floated into the air as though they had lost their gravity. Mysterious runes glowing blue and red could be seen on their undersides. Within the openings formed by the fallen stones, a series of devices resembling enormous lenses were revealed, and they began filling with flowing light.
More rumbling sounds arose from elsewhere. The nine smaller pyramids surrounding the main tower underwent similar changes, though they opened at the tops rather than along their sides. The flat roofs of the small pyramids withdrew in four directions like the covers of some kind of launch shaft, and then massive crystal lenses rose from within.

As soon as a series of lenses emerged from the pyramids, they began automatically calibrating their positions. Then, starting from one of the small pyramids, dazzling white beams began passing through the structure complex. As the beams leaped from one point to another, they formed a precisely structured grid.
