Background / History

Shrek was regarded as the world’s premier soul master holy land and maintained close ties with powerful noble houses and hidden sects across the three Douluo empires. Its relationship with the Xuanming Sect was significant enough that the sect sent Kong Xiyue to study there and expected her to contribute strength on its behalf. 2

The academy’s authority rested with the Sea God Pavilion. At one recorded conference, its core leadership comprised six Sea God Pavilion Elders and four departmental heads; eight were Super Douluo and two were Titled Douluo. 19 Shrek also maintained separate Martial Soul and Soul Tool Departments, whose rivalry concerned Mu En because of the Soul Tool Department’s uncertain standing. 20

For ten thousand years, Shrek’s prestige made its name a source of fear among rival academies and a spiritual symbol within the Three Great Empires. It was credited with a ten-thousand-year championship legacy in the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Tournament. 46 133 Its influence extended beyond education: Shrek City possessed taxation, diplomacy, and military power, while Sea God Pavilion decisions were said to have influenced continental affairs. 47

This influence increasingly provoked resentment. Xu Jiujiu viewed Shrek as a state within a state that absorbed imperial geniuses and resources while claiming neutrality. 47 Shrek was also accused of extensive soul-beast hunting, including missions for Inner Courtyard disciples to capture ten-thousand-year soul beasts and the destruction or crippling of several races in the Star Dou Great Forest. 10

Major Conflicts and Decline

Conflict with the Xuanming Sect

After Xu Sanshi was severely injured and his Black Tortoise Shield shattered during the Shrek Supervision Group’s disaster, Xu Xiaoyun led Xuanming Sect experts to Shrek City to demand payment for a blood debt. 136 137 The resulting battle crippled Xuan Zi, severely depleted Mu En’s life force, and forced Shrek’s experts to swear not to seek revenge against the Xuanming Sect. 139

Mu En died after the subsequent battle between Long Xiaoyao and Xu Xiaoyun, while Xuan Zi remained crippled and Yan Shaozhe was severely injured. Xu Sanshi was retrieved from the academy by Xu Fu. 140

Tournament Defeat and Loss of Prestige

Shrek’s main selection team was devastated by an Evil Soul Master before the tournament, leaving only two survivors. 133 Though Zheng Tian Academy later forfeited rather than face Shrek, the academy’s team was subsequently crushed by Xu Tianxi and the Sun Moon Battle Team, suffering six consecutive defeats. 159 163

Shrek’s rivalry with Mingde Hall escalated when Cai Meier was defeated, captured, and had her soul rings broken by Jing Hongchen. Shrek later exchanged top-tier Soul Bones to secure her release. 153 159

Internal Crisis

Xuan Zi, formerly Shrek’s second-in-command, was identified by the Heaven Dou Empire and allied investigations as an Evil Soul Master planted within Shrek. 216 The revelation deepened external distrust of the academy, especially following allegations that his long tenure coincided with Shrek’s failure to produce new Super Douluo successors. 198

Shrek later sought aid from the Three Great Empires to recover captured students, an unprecedented act of weakness noted by its opponents. 194 The Body Sect also entered Shrek City demanding Huo Yuhao, asserting ownership over Body Martial Soul masters. 195

War with the Sun Moon Empire

Shrek launched an invasion targeting He Caitou, the former Sun Moon crown prince, only to walk into an ambush arranged at the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy. 317 Xu Tianxi’s Heaven Origin Moon Radiance Domain slaughtered many Shrek reinforcements, while surviving geniuses were captured for the Sun Moon Empire. 320

Xian Liner was killed by Zhang Lexuan after Lexuan defected to the Sun Moon Empire. 321 During the broader battle at Mingde Hall, two Shrek Titled Douluo sacrificed themselves to cover the retreat, and Old Song—the Sea God Pavilion Master—was captured alive by Xu Tianxi. 323 Old Song was mutilated and reduced to level 77 Soul Saint, while Old Dong was killed attempting to flee. 324

Summoning Order and Final Destruction

With financial strain and external pressure mounting, Yan Shaozhe issued a Shrek Summoning Order recalling outstanding graduates to the Sea God Pavilion. 331 The order drew many former students and strengthened Shrek numerically to five Super Douluo and more than twenty Titled Douluo, but also intensified hostility from the surrounding empires. 332 336

Ye Xishui ultimately attacked Shrek City with the God of Death Tower. Mu En was overwhelmed while channeling the Golden Tree’s power, Shrek City was destroyed, and most inhabitants were killed or captured. Mu En’s soul collapsed, ending Shrek Academy; Bei Bei alone survived from the academy. 413
