Goen is an elder of War God Academy and later serves as its principal during the absence of its mysterious principal. He is also a member of the Earth Clan, one of the ancient elemental races represented by the Four Great Academies. War God Academy corresponds to the Earth Clan, while the other academies correspond to Wind, Fire, and Water. 338 339 366

Although he possesses extensive knowledge drawn from his clan's ancient records, Goen acknowledges that much of ancient history—including the fate of the Dragon Blood Warriors and the Space Clan—has been lost or deliberately severed. 109 179 339 340

He is also pragmatic and decisive as War God Academy's leader. When the Dark Tower's threat escalates, he argues that continued retreat is impossible and orders the academy to take the initiative against its agents. 366
