Background / History

Yao Rao enters the Undead Mountain Range’s Blood River region while searching for an unspecified objective. Using a tornado spell, she exposes the riverbed and rescues Qi Bei from a predatory fish caught in the vortex. Though amused by his boldness, she is surprised that he remains clear-headed in the face of her charm. 4

Soon afterward, Yao Rao restrains Qi Bei and uses him as bait to draw out a golden-eyed Specter. She traps the undead in a blood-red magic formation, but the effort drains her severely. To destroy it, she expends the power of the Heart of the Sky; a subsequent Silver Armored Skeleton forces her to shatter her master’s Protective Tear Pendant. 5 6

The exertion causes Yao Rao to collapse, while a cold poison dormant in her body flares up. The poison deprives her of all magic power for ten days, leaving her dependent on Qi Bei after he carries her to safety. In exchange for his protection, she challenges him to make her fall in love within those ten days. 6 7

Before they part, Yao Rao gives Qi Bei the Saint Grade Mad Dragon Battle Qi Art. Its Yang-aligned nature contributes to Qi Bei’s Extreme Yang Fire episode; while trying to save him, Yao Rao is forced into intimacy by his frenzied state. The resulting Yin–Yang harmonization restores and strengthens her magic power. She leaves Qi Bei directions out of the mountain range and a warning to keep their encounter secret, then watches him from nearby before departing. 9 10 11

Her charm conceals a calculating side: she binds Qi Bei without consent and employs him as bait for the Specter. However, she does not intend for him to die, later shows apology after exhausting herself in battle, and ultimately entrusts him with an extremely rare battle qi art. 5 6 9

When stripped of her magic by cold poison, Yao Rao reveals vulnerability beneath her pride. She asks Qi Bei for protection, accepts his care, and later chooses to wait until he becomes strong enough to stand beside her. 7 10
