"You found the right person!"
Seeing Qin Ran's intense reaction, Lu Xin immediately understood.
Being held at gunpoint was naturally terrifying, even if he himself had a gun. But Lu Xin saw that his Sister had appeared beside Qin Ran at some point, staring intently at Qin Ran's head. He no longer worried, merely adjusting his sitting posture slightly.
"It wasn't me."
He looked at Qin Ran seriously and said, "I'm here to investigate if you've been having any problems recently."
Chen Jing had sent him to check if this person named Qin Ran was problematic, but Lu Xin really didn't know how to investigate.
So, he decided to just ask.
One had to find the right method for work to save time, effort, and be efficient.
"Investigate my problems?"
Qin Ran's eyes hardened. The thumb holding the gun flicked the safety off, lifted slightly, and aimed at Lu Xin's head.
His gaze was somewhat sinister. "Are you from the Guard Department?"
"I'm not from the Guard Department, don't be nervous..."
Lu Xin pondered how to reassure him, but being pointed at with a gun made him uncomfortable no matter what.
Moreover, he could tell that despite Qin Ran appearing calm, his mental state was actually very poor, as if a string was constantly pulled taut. With such a person holding a loaded gun, no one could guarantee that a single word wouldn't provoke him into immediately shooting, so he glanced at his Sister.
A strange smile appeared on his Sister's face, hidden by her hair.
Seeing Qin Ran pointing the gun at her brother, she suddenly reached out and nudged Qin Ran's hand.
Caught off guard, Qin Ran lost his grip, and the gun flew out of his hand, heading straight for Lu Xin. Lu Xin reached out and caught the gun, then flicked off the safety and put it into his bag. Only then did he look up at Qin Ran.
"I'm not investigating your problems, I'm investigating if you've encountered any problems."
Qin Ran was already covered in cold sweat. He nervously looked around but saw no one.
Then his gaze locked onto Lu Xin, his voice trembling slightly, "How... how did you do that?"
"Don't ask, you wouldn't be able to learn it even if I told you!"
Lu Xin hugged his backpack and asked again, "Have you encountered any oddities?"
"I..."
Qin Ran felt inexplicably flustered by his question, especially because Lu Xin, sitting in front of him, seemed too calm.
Despite his appearance and demeanor suggesting he was just an honest, ordinary young man from the city, his extreme calmness made him seem somewhat eerie.
If one couldn't suppress the other's aura, they risked being suppressed themselves.
So, he hesitated for a moment, then slowly retorted, "What kind of problems?"
Lu Xin thought for a moment and slowly said, "Like those few lives?"
"You..."
Being asked this question so directly, Qin Ran's expression showed clear panic.
His gun had been taken away inexplicably. In this office, he had no more guns, while Lu Xin had two. He should have been nervous, but unexpectedly, after his panic subsided, he stared intently at Lu Xin, and a look of excitement gradually appeared on his face. He suddenly cursed loudly, "Damn it, someone actually understands these things! I knew it, it couldn't be just me who encountered this..."
Then he stared fixedly at Lu Xin, his eyes red, and said, "I don't know which side you're on, but... I've definitely encountered it!"
Lu Xin also became a little nervous and quickly asked, "What?"
Qin Ran said word by word, "I encountered someone seeking revenge on me!"
Lu Xin was somewhat surprised. For someone like Qin Ran, being sought for revenge shouldn't be considered an oddity...
"It's not ordinary revenge..."
Qin Ran drained a cup of tea that still looked quite hot in one go. He stared intently at Lu Xin. He seemed to have undergone some internal struggle, but ultimately, he couldn't overcome his fear and slowly began to speak, "It's the kind that no one would believe even if I told them..."
Lu Xin saw his intense emotions and advised, "Take your time."
Qin Ran slowly let out a sigh, as if trying to discern something from Lu Xin's face, but slowly, he deflated. After a moment, he said, "It all started fourteen days ago. I don't mind you knowing, my business isn't just about hauling goods. This line of work has a lot of deaths and doesn't earn much, so I do all sorts of profitable things, the Guard Department knows this too."
Lu Xin could only nod, acting as if he understood very well.
"It all began after a transaction involving a packet of Little Bear Pills!"
The bloodshot veins in Qin Ran's eyes seemed to multiply, but his voice sounded somewhat low. "I was trading with Old Cui from the west side of the city. That bastard's name is Cui Wang, he specializes in trafficking these things. We'd partnered a few times before, but that day, I didn't expect him to come for the transaction alone. He was treating me too much like a good person! How could I let this opportunity pass? So, I took care of him..."
"I took all of that packet of Little Bear Pills. It's enough for me to earn tens of thousands..."
"Tens of thousands?"
Lu Xin was shocked.
"The important part is coming!"
Qin Ran glanced at him, then continued, "I dismembered Old Cui's body into several pieces and fed them to wild dogs. I thought that would be the end of it, but I didn't expect that a day later, a woman suddenly appeared. I didn't know her at all, but she said her name was Cui Wang, cursed me for being disloyal, demanded my life in return, and wanted me to hand over all that merchandise..."
Lu Xin's expression shifted slightly; he was genuinely intrigued now.
"I had no idea what that woman was up to. I just thought she was Old Cui's mistress, so I dealt with her too!"
Qin Ran spat, "The body was mixed into the cement. See? That newly paved scale over there..."
Lu Xin listened with a blank expression.
Qin Ran continued, "But afterward, I felt something was off, so I had someone investigate. It turned out that woman was named Wang Ting, a factory worker at a clothing plant in the south of the city. Apparently, she didn't even know Old Cui. What do you think, isn't that damn weird?"
Lu Xin could only nod in agreement.
"But the really strange part came later..."
Qin Ran's expression grew more ferocious as he spoke, "After that incident, two days later, two more people suddenly showed up looking for me. One was an old man, and the other was a beggar about seventeen or eighteen. One claimed to be Cui Wang, and the other claimed to be Wang Ting. Both of them came straight for me, demanding my life. Even with all my men surrounding me, they attacked without a word..."
As he spoke, he made a motion across his neck, "I killed them too!"
"That's four people..."
Lu Xin was slightly taken aback.
"Then came the part that gave me a real headache..."
Qin Ran said in a low voice, "I had my men check their identities. It turned out they seemed to have no connection to Old Cui or that woman Wang Ting, but they still showed up. And... and the most uncanny thing was... was..."
He couldn't help but swallow at this point, his voice growing hoarse, "Four days later, four more people suddenly arrived. I didn't know any of them at all. But they... they just walked right into my house and started choking me... Damn it, four people, all acting like lunatics. One claimed to be Old Cui, one claimed to be Wang Ting, one claimed to be Uncle Zhang, and one claimed to be Wuzi... They're crazy, all damn crazy! Their eyes... they were terrifying..."
Hearing this, Lu Xin finally showed some surprise. "And these people?"
"I didn't dare kill these ones..."
Qin Ran said in a low voice, his eyes red, "I felt it was too bizarre, so I locked them up. But..."
He said "but" twice but didn't finish. He just said quietly to Lu Xin, "Come with me."
