Background / History

Ikki was treated as a failure within the Kurogane Family because of his weak Magic Power. The former chairman of Bujin Academy, acting under the family's orders, barred him from training and kept him from advancing toward graduation. Kurono Shinguji's appointment finally gives him the chance to enter the Seven Star Sword Dance Festival selection matches; he is promised graduation if he becomes the Seven Star Sword King. 138

Despite being the son of Gen Kurogane, Ikki grows up with no meaningful expectations or instruction from his father. When he later asks Gen for acknowledgment, Gen explains that he had never hated Ikki, but considered him talentless and without a role in the family's organization. 169

On his first day under the academy's new dorm policy, Ikki becomes Shirou Emiya's roommate. Their initially playful relationship quickly develops into a competitive partnership centered on swordsmanship and mutual improvement. 122 125 128

Personality

Ikki is calm and restrained in the face of ridicule, refusing to react when Shizushi Kirihara mocks his weak Magic Power and his pursuit of swordsmanship. 138 His composure can conceal anxiety; before facing Kirihara, he is so accustomed to enduring hardship that he initially cannot recognize his own nervousness. 139

He is intensely persistent. Even after being repeatedly struck in Shirou's arrow simulation and pushed to exhaustion, he activates One-Sword Overdrive to demand another attempt. 139 He also holds himself to a high standard, remaining dissatisfied after a twenty-minute spar with Torajiro Nangou despite being praised for matching the God of Combat. 181

Abilities & Skills

Inyō

Ikki's Noble Phantasm manifests as twin swords and serves as the foundation for his combat techniques. 125 126

  • Noble Phantasms can be used in phantom form for nonlethal training or true form for real combat. 123
  • Shirou's projection of Inyō allows him to read Ikki's accumulated sword experience, reflecting the close connection between a Blade Dancer and their Noble Phantasm. 125 126

Imitation Swordsmanship

Ikki can read and learn other fighters' sword techniques and even their thought processes, compensating for the lack of formal instruction he received. 123 125

  • His fighting style is built around insight and observation, making him especially reliant on his eyes. 140
  • He cannot fully reproduce Shirou's swordsmanship during their duel because Shirou's style changes and evolves too quickly. 127

Seven Secret Swords

Ikki created seven secret sword techniques by integrating countless styles he had observed. 126

  • First Secret Sword: Rhino Strike
  • Second Secret Sword: Armor Splitter
  • Third Secret Sword: Circle
  • Fourth Secret Sword: Mirage Wolf
  • Fifth Secret Sword: Mad Cherry Blossom
  • Sixth Secret Sword: Poison Moth Blade
  • Seventh Secret Sword: Lightning Flash 126

One-Sword Overdrive

A secret technique that removes Ikki's survival instinct and forces his body to draw out its full strength for one minute. 126

  • Increases physical attributes by tenfold through Magic Power drawn from the depths of his soul. 126
  • Can only be used once per day. 123
  • Causes severe exhaustion after use. 150
  • Its evolved form, One-Hit Rakshasa, pushes his acceleration beyond his prior limits at the cost of bodily damage. 178

Auditory Perception

Through Shirou's training, Ikki learns to perceive the trajectory of arrows by listening to the airflow and sound they create. 139 140

  • Allows him to respond to visible and invisible arrows in Hunter's Forest. 139 140
  • Requires adjustment because his usual swordsmanship overwhelmingly prioritizes visual information. 140

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Inyō — Ikki's twin-sword Noble Phantasm. 125 126

  • Shizuku Kurogane — Younger sister and fellow Bujin Academy student. She is deeply protective of Ikki and worries over his battles. 127 164
  • Gen Kurogane — Father. Ikki seeks his acknowledgment, only to learn that Gen had no expectations for him because he saw no role for him in the Kurogane Family. 169
  • Stella Vermillion — Friend who admires Ikki's resilience and supports him against Kirihara's insults. 138
  • Shizushi Kirihara — First selection-tournament opponent; Kirihara's Obscure Moon and Hunter's Forest are a severe matchup disadvantage for Ikki. 138 140
  • Ayatsuji Ayase — Opponent whom Ikki assists with her personal crisis; she becomes his disciple after he resolves the situation surrounding her family's dojo. 150 151 168
  • Touka Toudou — Academy president and decisive selection-match opponent. Ikki defeats her after his One-Sword Overdrive evolves into One-Hit Rakshasa. 174 178 179
  • Torajiro Nangou — The God of Combat, whom Ikki spars against for twenty minutes; Ikki considers his performance insufficient despite holding his own. 181
  • Edelweiss — A swordsman Ikki is introduced to through Shirou, allowing him to witness the world's strongest sword domain. 186
