The research into the Machine Horse's transformation mechanism was actually preparation for this multifunctional Spider Armor.
After all, everyone except Quicksilver already had a suit of armor to fall back on. The Machine Horse was only there to assist them. Even if it malfunctioned, it would not endanger its wearer's life.
Gwen Stacy's situation was clearly different, however. She was not even a mutant like Quicksilver. A malfunction could very well put her life in immediate danger, so Henry had no choice but to be meticulous.
For everyday use, the two spiders could each control a Support Mech, taking turns accompanying Gwen. When necessary, the accompanying Support Mech could transform into a powered skateboard or a similar vehicle for fast transportation.
In a crisis, the two Support Mechs could combine into a Spider-Mech. Besides protecting its occupant inside the armor, it could perform combat maneuvers to fight enemies or retreat.
The two spiders had proposed all these requirements themselves. The only thing those two had not done was draw up blueprints and have the Kryptonian build the Spider Armor directly. In short, the ones making wishes could dream up anything they liked, while the one doing the work could only curse. If the person being protected had not been a young girl like Gwen, Henry would definitely have wanted to hear a couple of splats, just to see whether spiders from the Amazon Rainforest made a crisper sound when slapped flat.
Getting the Spider Armor right in one go would not be easy. Plenty of technical problems still needed solving. In particular, the spiders' wish list had inexplicably reminded Henry of a classic science-fiction manga he had read before transmigrating: Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell.
Maybe I should build a spider tank to play around with?
Still, Henry first
