Background / History

Krypton was an interstellar civilization active roughly nine to ten thousand years before Henry Brown’s exposure. Its exact history is disputed: General Talos portrays Kryptonians as expansionists who enslaved or destroyed worlds, while Yon-Rogg attributes Krypton’s downfall primarily to the Skrull Empire’s attempted conquest of the Vega System. 359 381

According to the Kree account, Krypton’s DNA-based technology prevented Skrull shapeshifters from infiltrating or overthrowing its government. Krypton initially repelled the Skrulls despite having only recently entered interstellar travel, prompting Kree interest in an alliance. 381

The Kryptonian fleet was later destroyed at the Battle of the Barrington Galaxy. In response, Krypton created the Phantom Zone around the Rao System, cutting off invasion but also isolating the planet from the rest of the galaxy. 359 381

Skrull recollections identify Krypton’s native stellar environment as red-sun illumination and the Barrington battlefield as a green-sun environment. Their surviving knowledge of these weaknesses was clearer than their knowledge of Kryptonian abilities under a Yellow Sun. 343 359 366

Kingo attributes Krypton’s rapid rise to its extraordinary intelligence, while describing its unpredictable behavior as an obstacle to cooperation with other civilizations. Ajak personally witnessed the historical Kryptonian fleet’s might and its success in throwing the Skrull Empire into disarray. 410 708

Earth-based observation cannot locate the sealed system. Even the remnants of Henry’s infant spacecraft have been dismantled, scattered, or lost among Red Empire remnants and S.H.I.E.L.D. holdings. 1206

Society and Reproduction

Kryptonian society reportedly used a genetic Codex to produce children for predetermined occupations, including soldiers, engineers, artists, and administrators. The system screened for genetic defects and treated society as a tightly controlled hierarchy. 359 360

According to Talos, the Codex required DNA contributions from two people and allowed society to manufacture children according to its occupational needs. Henry also refers to this reproductive system as the Genesis Codex. 360 365 366

Naturally conceived children were designated Flawed Ones because they bypassed Codex screening and occupational design. These infants were placed in pods and exiled, usually toward the Phantom Zone. 360

Henry is believed to be one such Flawed One. He theorizes that natural birth may allow greater developmental potential than Codex-designed birth, though it may also permit genetic defects that the Codex would have eliminated. 365 366

Henry does not regard natural birth as proof that he can attain Superman’s strength. His comparisons with other Kryptonian stories distinguish genetic specialization from education, upbringing, and combat experience; these remain his interpretations rather than verified measurements of this universe’s Kryptonian population. 366

Physiology and Abilities

The following abilities are documented primarily through Henry Brown’s Kryptonian physiology under Earth’s Yellow Sun.

Yellow-Sun Empowerment

Yellow Sun radiation strengthens Kryptonian cells and supplies the energy used by their powers. 18

• Henry’s physical durability allows him to withstand boiling water without injury and resist ordinary medical needles. 17 804
• Kryptonian strength requires control as much as force; Henry can make minute muscular adjustments, alter facial expressions, and subtly change his appearance. 10
• Henry’s neural reactions and thinking accelerate with intense focus, allowing him to assess and act within events that appear nearly frozen from his perspective. 76
• Skrulls can copy a Kryptonian’s appearance, but a Kryptonian DNA lock prevents a complete biological copy. They cannot reproduce Kryptonian powers. 342 359
• Henry’s genes are described as highly adaptive. They resisted the foreign destructive power lodged in his eyes, although that struggle did not prevent prolonged ocular damage. 949

Biological Force Field

Kryptonians can accumulate Yellow Sun energy as a Biological Force Field beneath the skin and around the hair. The field reinforces the Steel Body and can be consciously manipulated. 18

• Henry reflected his own Heat Vision from a mirror with only minor facial-hair damage, though doing so consumed stored energy. 18
• He generated a lighter-like flame from his fingers, demonstrating that the field can imitate seemingly magical effects. 18
• Complex energy conversion is inefficient; directly generating fire consumes substantially more energy than using super-speed to ignite material conventionally. 18
• Supporting an aircraft involves more than lifting its weight: force must be distributed carefully to avoid breaking the fuselage. Henry supported a small gliding jet across a broad area of his body and controlled its descent. 111 112

Heat Vision and Enhanced Senses

Henry’s Heat Vision first manifested as uncontrolled red visual output that scorched his hand. 17

• After its initial manifestation, Henry could consciously activate Heat Vision and adjust its intensity and duration, though fine control required practice. 17
• Heat Vision combines kinetic impact with intense heat, with its thermal upper limit described as dependent on willpower. Against the Diberians, it cut through bodies that Cyclops’s primarily kinetic Optic Blasts usually knocked backward. 167
• His X-ray vision can map the interior layout of spacecraft, identify occupants, trace cables, and distinguish major compartments. 374 375
• X-ray vision cannot reliably identify viruses or every illness; Henry found that many medical conditions were beyond what his eyes could detect. 59
• He can use sound waves and underwater vibrations to construct a detailed mental map in deep-sea darkness. 746

• Super speed enables rapid travel, covert movement, precision construction, and rescue operations. 28 697 720
• High-speed vibration also permits limited molecular phasing through thin barriers, but maintaining it for longer periods raises the risk of mistakes. 375
• His speed is not absolute protection: Makkari’s centuries of speed-combat experience allowed her to pressure him despite his superior physical attributes. 1209
• Against a Goat-Headed Demon, Henry accelerated his punches to nearly the speed of light, then declined to push them further because he feared damaging reality. The barrage severed the demon’s limbs but did not establish that it had been killed. 1284

Super Brain and Technical Precision

Henry’s Super Brain supports accelerated thought, calculation, and the practical development of his abilities. He views intellectual development as a less conspicuous way to use his Kryptonian advantages than publicly relying on strength. 18 37

• His abilities permit extraordinary manual precision: even with impaired ocular powers, he could perform nanometer-level work while constructing advanced Mecha. 720
• Henry produced a detailed report on Eternal biology after examining Kingo for half a day, identifying the fundamental difference between Eternal and human DNA. 414
• Super Brain is not infallible or a substitute for experience. Its involvement in breaking Mastermind’s influence also contributed substantially to Henry’s self-inflicted injuries. 804
• Henry’s intelligence does not establish parity with Superman’s comic-book intellect; he explicitly doubts that his own Kryptonian template is comparable. 37

Durability, Healing, and Limits

Kryptonian durability does not eliminate all harm. Henry’s early regeneration was slower than Wolverine’s or Deadpool’s after he severely damaged his own hand. 18

Psychic assault and uncontrolled bioelectricity can incapacitate a Kryptonian despite their physical resilience. Henry suffered convulsions, unconsciousness, and a hospital stay after resisting Mastermind’s mental powers. 803 804

Henry also regards Quicksilver’s Molecular Vibration Hand Blade as a potential means of bypassing even a Kryptonian Steel Body. This remains his assessment of a possible threat, not a demonstrated injury. 940

Yellow-Sun empowerment does not establish immunity to infection. Henry considers viral disease a potential risk and recognizes that his enhanced sight cannot reliably detect it. 59

• Ordinary environmental heat, cold, and mosquito bites present little difficulty for Henry; mosquitoes cannot pierce his skin. 96
• A silver spike driven against his palm bent and deformed rather than penetrating his skin. Flying glass likewise failed to injure him when he shielded Rose Octavius. 458 949
• His resilience does not remove sensation. Lightning produced noticeable tingling without injuring him, reflecting a high threshold for pain rather than complete sensory insensitivity. 523

Distinction from Daxamians

Daxamians are similar Yellow-Sun-empowered aliens but are vulnerable to lead rather than Kryptonite. Henry tested himself with pure lead and showed no allergic reaction, ruling out Daxamian ancestry. 18 173

Stellar Radiation and Weaknesses

Kryptonians retain memories of actions performed while altered by radiation, meaning temporary personality changes may leave lasting psychological effects. 365

Henry believes the danger comes from radiation rather than the color of an ordinary light source. Because Krypton has not exploded, he does not assume that accessible natural Kryptonite exists on Earth; nevertheless, he seeks armor capable of shielding him from harmful radiation and remains concerned that scientists could eventually reproduce colored stellar effects. 365 410 411 1125

The Void considered manufacturing Kryptonite but could not construct an unknown material without a real reference. Its molecular manipulation was not equivalent to unrestricted reality alteration. It also considered creating a Green Sun, but attempts at large-scale matter alteration encountered resistance from two other forces. Neither plan produced a demonstrated radiation attack on Henry. 546

By the time Henry investigated sub-cosmic energy, an Anti-Kryptonite Radiation Suit remained among his highest equipment priorities. He intended to understand the Celestials’ armor-system technology before designing suitable Energy-Manifested Armor, reasoning that an enemy who successfully obtained Kryptonite might also prepare a lethal strategy that allowed no second chance. 1288

• DNA-based technology — Krypton’s technological path reportedly made Skrull infiltration methods ineffective. 381
• Individual armor — Henry speculates that historical Kryptonian armor may have shielded wearers from harmful stellar radiation, though this has not been confirmed for Krypton in this universe. 365

Interstellar Relations

• Skrull Empire — The Skrulls regard Kryptonians as a historic threat. Talos describes Krypton as a destructive expansionist power, while the Skrulls’ hostility toward Henry led to framing attempts and efforts to remove him from their operations. Their inability to duplicate Kryptonian DNA fully allows them to identify the species despite outward disguise. 342 359 364
  • Talos subsequently offered to end hostilities if Henry was merely an accidental arrival who remained rational. Later, after reviewing Henry’s Earth activities, he ordered the Skrulls not to trouble him, judging him harmless and further interference unnecessary to their cooperation with Earth. 361 498
• Kree Empire — Yon-Rogg claims the Kree once sought Krypton as an ally and supplied it with covert aid. He offered Henry access to Kree records on Hala in exchange for assistance against Carol Danvers. 381
  • Henry rejected the offer, refusing involvement in Yon-Rogg’s war and recognizing that leaving Earth’s Yellow Sun for an unfamiliar stellar environment could expose him to severe physiological disadvantages. 381
