Takeoff under pursuit
Upon hearing the sound of engines in the distance, the two went from jogging to running—at least for Brian.
Henry pretended to be in a hurry, but actually followed Brian at a leisurely pace. The panic on his face and his flustered movements were purely acting.
Judging from the runway location, takeoff direction, and relative position to the pursuing convoy, the other side could only come to watch the plane take off. It was a rather large and grand send-off procession, complete with its own deadly fireworks.
So Henry didn't intend to get involved. His bottom line was that Audrey Hepburn was injured; until then, all damage was within acceptable limits, including such a heart-stopping moment. Of course, it was best if none of Brian and the others were injured.
The small passenger plane began to move as it taxied from the tarmac onto the runway, the cabin doors not closed. However, the aircraft's turbine engines noticeably increased their output, and the unusually piercing sound vibrated in our ears.
Pressing down on Henry's back, Brian made them both run quickly in a crouched position, avoiding the engine's air vents to prevent them from being caught in them.
He first pushed Henry onto the plane, then jumped in himself, but didn't bother to close the cabin door. He just yelled towards the pilot, "Everyone's on board! Takeoff! Takeoff!"
After shouting, he half-hanged outside the cabin door, firing his rifle backward. At the same time, the plane began to taxi, and the engine noise gradually increased.
The sound of retaliatory fire from behind made everyone on the plane aware of the situation. However, the plane had very limited firing arcs; only Brian's position allowed him to return fire. So the others could only watch helplessly.
But it's not entirely true that nothing can be done. Old Bernie gave Henry a push, though he didn't push him away, but he said urgently, "Go sit down. We'll help you here."
Henry readily agreed and gave up his seat to watch over Audrey Hepburn, who was sitting in the middle of the plane.
After confirming that the employer had fastened his seatbelt and was still wearing his bulletproof vest, Henry asked, "Is everything alright, boss? I haven't had time to ask you before."
"I'm fine, child," Audrey Hepburn calmly reassured her.
"The plane is about to take off; everything will be fine once it takes off." Henry then sat behind her, as a shield against bullets. If a bullet really came from behind...
At the cabin door, Old Bernie put his arm around Brian's waist and used one hand to stabilize him, allowing Brian to use his gun with both hands without falling out of the increasingly fast-moving plane.
The other two were responsible for changing magazines, exchanging the fully loaded guns for Brian's empty weapon.
However, when boarding the plane, not much ammunition and weapons were carried on board, let alone refilling the empty magazines. Therefore, there weren't many usable weapons.
In no time, all that was left for Brian was his pistol.
Fortunately, the plane was already fast enough. The Italian captain pulled the rudder back, and the plane began to pitch up.
A short while later, the plane successfully took off. The pursuing convoy, as if venting their anger, started firing indiscriminately with the machine guns on their vehicles.
Brian emptied his last magazine and retreated back into the plane. Together with Old Bernie, they closed the hatch.
Brian and the others, slumped in the cabin, shouted, "Yes! We finally escaped!"
"Brian, well done."
Haha, everyone did a great job.
"Wow, we defeated those black guys!"
Just then, an untimely voice rang out. A female flight attendant, also seated, said, "Gentlemen, although you are pleased, the plane is currently taking off. Please return to your seats and fasten your seatbelts as soon as possible for your safety."
Brian said, "Alright, old guys, strap yourselves into your seats. I'll talk to the captain about where to land once we're level."
Although the aircraft was tilted quite a bit during takeoff, Brian and his team were trained Special Forces veterans.
Climbing back to your seat on the plane is a small matter.
The group of people flew away from Somalia without any trouble, carrying with them the joy of surviving a disaster.
Suddenly Sam exclaimed in surprise, "Hey, look! There's rainbow-colored mist outside! Is this a special sunset spectacle?"
This is the first time I've ever seen this.
Upon hearing this, everyone turned to look out the window on Sam's side. Some admired, some praised, and one cursed, "Fuck it, we're doomed!"
"Brian, what's going on?" Old Bernie asked the man who was cursing.
"Open your eyes and look! The spray is coming from our wings. What do you think that could be?"
Mark said in surprise, "You don't mean to say that's our gasoline, do you?"
"Oh, great. Someone's got the brains working and figured out what that damn thing was," Brian said with relief.
"We won't fall, will we?" Sam asked.
Not for now.
"Oh, that's really good news," Sam said disappointedly. "So we're going to fall eventually, aren't we?"
"But not now." Brian unbuckled his seatbelt and said, "The good news is we still have time to find a solution. I'll go talk to the captain about where to fly."
The fact that no one screamed hysterically was probably the most fortunate thing. However, everyone was still very concerned about their own lives.
Old Bernie and the others unbuckled their seatbelts and followed Brian to the cockpit door. Even if a large group couldn't squeeze into the cockpit, at least they could peek inside and see what the people were doing.
Henry approached Audrey Hepburn, observing her calm expression. "Boss, are you alright?"
Seeing everyone else had unbuckled their seatbelts and were running around, even though the seatbelt light wasn't off, Audrey Hepburn still moved to a window seat so Henry could sit next to her.
She calmly said, "Child, I'm fine. I just thought I'd experienced enough in my life, that nothing new would happen anymore. But the possibility of a plane crashing is truly a first."
Having lived through war and filmed movies, Audrey Hepburn experienced both the worst and the most fantastical things in the world.
Not to mention the world is full of all sorts of Mutants, some who can fly, move mountains and seas, and others whose appearances are so different from humans that they have trained the hearts of ordinary people to be incredibly strong.
Ordinary "surprises" cannot sway them at all, just like Ms. Hepburn today.
But Audrey Hepburn's only thought was that she really didn't want to experience a plane crash.
Calm and still.
"It's possible that when those Old Black were strafing us with their machine guns, they hit the plane's wing and punctured the fuel tank. At least we weren't blown to bits on the spot, which is a good thing, isn't it?" The veteran Italian captain calmly explained the possible situation.
