Nick Fury said thoughtfully, "And we don't have enough evidence to prove that Black Super, the mysterious figure who keeps appearing, is Henry Brown. Even if we made this public, would it be difficult for him to simply abandon that disguise?"
What truly concerned Nick Fury was the Skrulls' aversion to Kryptonians. The moment he chose the Skrulls as allies, he had more or less doomed any chance of recruiting a Kryptonian.
If the two sides never came into contact, Nick Fury was confident he could play both sides and make them work for him. Unfortunately, the Skrulls sometimes replaced him, and in those situations, it was hard to ensure that a Skrull with access to his recent memories would not take the opportunity to cause trouble.
Once things turned hostile, he could only call Captain Marvel Carol Danvers back for a chance to fight a Superman.
And even then, victory was far from certain.
—All because the Skrulls had sown discord, forcing him to reveal every card he had and become enemies with someone who had never needed to be an enemy.
No matter how he looked at it, it was unbelievably stupid.
Rather than that, it was better to draw a clear line.
"However—" Nick Fury abruptly changed tack. "If there's a way to prove that he is Black Super and make it public, it would still benefit us.
"At the very least, we could expose his lie that he only possesses a Steel Body and force him to put everything out in the open. Unless he truly wants to become a terrorist and spend his life hiding from place to place."
Phil Coulson asked doubtfully, "Fury, what are we supposed to do?"
"You don't need to do anything. I'll find someone more likely to complete the mission."
